I have already spent too much time doing things I didn’t want to. I’m 25. I could die tomorrow, or I could live to be 120. Neither one is all that likely, so let’s split the difference and say that I’ll die at 72. That’s over a third of my life gone, and that’s if I’m lucky. You yourself might have more time or less. There are plenty of people who have died this year. People die all the time, and it isn’t going to stop, and no one makes it through alive. Some people die drowned in moonlight, strangled by their bras at 60. Some people, like my cousin, die at 43. Some people die at 25.
Whatever it is that you want to do, you’re going to die, and you can either dedicate yourself to that thing with all you’ve got, or you can not.
There is no in-between, and there’s no second chance.
