Tessa stood in the school bathrooms, tears glossing over her bright blue ocean eyes as she looked at herself thinking about why she can't be as beautiful as her beloved sister.
Before she could get a good cry out of her she heared foot steps and wiped them away standing up tall as she got her makeup out to make it look like she was just touching herself up.
Carla stepped into the bathroom, her boots thumping up to the farthest sink from Tessa and touching up her makeup. As she ran her eyeliner pencil over her waterline, she and Tessa made eye contact a few times in the mirror.
She could tell that she had been crying, but didn't want to ask. It wasn't her business, she didn't owe her anything...
Tessa snapped her compact shut a little harder the nessiary and forced her face into a cold dead stare.
โWhat are you looking at?โ she snapped, her voice cracking a bit as she spoke.
"A mirror." Carla clipped back, putting the cap on her eyeliner pencil and putting it back in her makeup bag.
"You were staring at me too."
Tessaโs jaw tightened, eyes flicking away for a split second before she scoffed softly. โAt least Iโve got something worth looking at.โ
"Why were you looking at me if I'm not something worth looking at me, sweetie?" Carla bit, straightening up and turning to look at Tessa. She hadn't wanted to get into a fight, but dammit, she gets under Carla's skin.

Every summer there was a Miss Derry beauty pageant. Girls 16+ could enter, and you got 150 dollars if you won. And Carla needed some cash right now because she needed to replace the front brakes on her car. But beauty pageants are stupid, and demeaning. But she needed the money and it didn't cost anything to enter.
Carla stared at the sign up sheet, looking conflicted. She'd always made fun of the contest for years.
"...Should I do it? I don't know..." She looked up at the person next to her.
"obviously I mean money is money I'm doing it mostly to mess other people up but I'm doing it!" Casey says excitedly giggling as she grabs the sheet of paper
"downside I have to dress up upside maybe my dad will finally love me and get the daughter he always wanted!"
Casey was used to pageants haven't done them in her childhood she hated them but she was dead broke and she loved messing with people
"Yeah," Carla laughed. "It would be nice to have a dad that loved me, though I don't think this'll do the trick."
She just shrugged, it was stupid and demeaning but she needed some money... And she wasn't above showing off how hot she was. That was for sure.
Rupert boredly stood at the gate of the gravitron, waiting for his sister Laura and her friends to finish at the water balloon toss so he could do his own thing.
His mood shifted tho when he spotted a certain Lewis girl standing in the gravitron line with his cousin Ava and made his way over "hey there girls, how's everything"
Carla looked at Rupert with an aloof stare, her hands tucked in the pockets of her denim cutoffs. She hadn't given Rupert much energy since she started dating Aiden, mostly just ignored him and his assholery these days. Though, to be fair, he hadn't been giving her much energy either. Just a comment here and there.
"Fine," She replied dryly. "What, do you want something?"
Griffin sprinted out of the school, his backpack half empty as papers flew out but he didnt bother to pick them up, Miss Douglas was very kind she'd give him new copys on Monday for now his main objective was to get the hell out of dodge of the group of five jocks haunting him down
Has he flew down the stairs startling a group of girls he didnt realize who was infront of him as he collided with the older girl causing her to spill a bit of water on herself
"OMG IM SO SORRY!" He stuttered out as he kept looking behind him hoping the brunette would understand the mistake and let him continue running. โPlease, I justโ I gotta go.โ
Carla scoffed at the water on her shirt, about to cuss the boy out but stopping herself when she saw the panic on his face. She sighed and moved out of the way.
"It's fine, it's fine. Get going, they haven't caught you yet." Carla hoped the boy was fast enough to not get beat up, he was a nice kid, though she didn't know him very well.

Because of how emotionally unpredictable her father was during her childhood, Carla gets uncomfortable and tends to shut down around people who are angry/upset, especially men/boys because she's subconsciously scared she's going to get shouted at if she does something to set them off. She also sometimes gets irrationality angry when people are upset/angry around her to protect herself. It doesn't matter if it has anything to do with her, she immediately internalizes it and shuts down or lashes out.

not so well for aiden and his team, they totally lost. itโs not like they played like absolute crap, but of course, aiden thought otherwise..mostly about himself. he always made everything hard on himself.
aiden watched as his teammates greeted their loved ones, he knew carla was out there somewhere in the stands. as if on command, she seemed to just pop up behind him, playfully punching his shoulder and grinning as she regained her footing, walking alongside him. aiden grumped. he wasnโt in the mood at all.
he took his helmet off and sighed, making his way towards the locker room, brushing off carla. she was still there beside him, just a little mad now that he was giving her some sort of silent treatment.

Carla grabbed Aiden's wrist gently, tugging him back so he'd look at her. She knew he was beating himself up about the game, that was what he did. He was so hard on himself. She also knew not to push him too hard, but she didn't want to just accept the silent treatment either.
"C'mon, Aiden, it wasn't your fault the team lost..."
aidens frown deepened. he knew she meant well, but the words didnโt land. he tensed, as if wanting to just pull his wrist out of her grasp and leave right there without giving her an answer, but he didnโt. the most he could do was avoid eye contact.
โ..yeah,โ he muttered.
โif I had just caught that pass, it couldโve gone betterโ. aiden spoke quietly, clearing his throat as he pulled his wrist back gently.
โ..everyone expects so much of me. but itโs like, at the same time, theyโre just kinda waiting for me to mess up, yโknow? and when I do, they rub it in my face. I donโt know what to give them. I canโt be perfect all the time. but thatโs not an excuse, so I..โ aiden shrugged, trailing off.
โI donโt know.โ he said, voice cracking.
Carla placed a hand on Aiden's arm, feeling an uncomfortable jolt in her chest when his voice cracked. She didn't like how he sounded so... Lost. She hated it. She wanted to fix it but she didn't know how.
"I don't... Expect that of you." She offered, knowing that wasn't very good. She bit the inside of her cheek, gently rubbing his arm. She wished he saw himself the way she saw him, she didn't understand how he didn't. How couldn't he see it?
"Look, after you're done getting changed 'n shit, let's go get some food and talk about it...?" She tried, she was trying, even though she wasn't the best at this sort of thing. She wanted to try.
