long  after  you're  gone . . . the  words  are  not  said,  but  jem  hears  them  in  the  space  between  what  @burnedbrlght  said  and  the  coughing  fit  that  came  right  after. as  his  parabatai  reaches  very  quickly  for  the  pitcher  of  water  at  the  night  table,  almost  knocking  it  over  in  his  haste,  they  clutch  a  handkerchief  to  their  mouth,  and  when  they  pull  it  back,  it's  spotted  red. he's  not  sure  he's  successful  in  pushing  it  to  the  other  side  of  the  bed  before  will's  poured  the  water  though. once  he  takes  a  sip,  tastes  the  blood  in  his  mouth,  he  pushes  it  back  into  the  man's  hands,  grimacing.

 the  truth  is,  nothing  will  make  them  feel  better. not  without  the  yin  fen,  that  mortmain  has  (  very  cleverly  )  used  to  strong  arm  tessa  into  doing  something  foolish  like  sacrifice  herself  for  jem. though  everyone  would  hesitate  to  say  it  in  front  of  him,  is  that  he  will  die. sooner  rather  than  later. his  own  fiancée  looks  at  him  with  pity  in  beautiful her  grey  eyes. and  he  hates  it,  more  than  anything. jem  knows  they  would  do  it  too,  both  of  them. sacrifice  themselves  for  him. but  he  would  rather  die  here,  with  some  semblance  of  dignity, than bury either of them. they would never bare it, the loss. it had been engrained in him for years, that he would die long before those he cared about ? the opposite is inconceivable.

 will  wants  to  do  anything  he  can  to  destroy  mortmain,  to  give  jem  what  he  unfortunately  needs  so  badly.  will  has  never  let  anything  resembling  pity  cross  his  face  or  look  towards  jem  with  an  expression  like  that.  that  is  not  the  relationship  either  of  them  has  ever  had  with  each  other.  though,  with  the  curse  --  will  had  always  felt  the  same  way.  if  given  the  opportunity,  he  would've  given  anything  except  tessa  or  jem  to  mortmain  for  jem  to  survive.  would've  laid  his  life  down  and  never  looked  back,  because  the  two  people  will  loves  most  would  have  been  happy  then.
