#If you've seen that baller Odyssey cover by Eleonor Piteira you'll know why I felt like drawing something mosaic-y #hard though #will have to try again #Did the clouds as mosaics first but it looked meh #so in the end it's just a little sun and the ocean #on one hand I wanted to draw something without overthinking it too much #on the other hand all the things that are undercooked cause I didn't think about them bother meeeeeeeeee #why can I never be relaxed #I need to relax #not posting this to either bsky or instagram because I have a backlog of replies to reply to first #but noone expects anything of me on tumblr thank goodness #I just want to draw and maybe get a little bit of dopamine and attention without having to be a human person in the process

I ended up experimenting a lot with this painting, pouring layers of ink washes over the watercolor and building back up with gouache and pastels. I'm trying to get a look that is soft and highly textured but still has clear strong details in places. I haven't gotten it down yet quite the way I want, but this is a step closer!

I adapted the colors once I'd finished the whole crystal gem set, so they all looked cohesive together, but there's a reason I picked these colors originally, I guess... they're very gentle <3
