"Mama said that I could scan the tickets," Momo says with a pout as Sana takes Nayeon's phone. She looks up at Jeongyeon for backup on their previous agreement.
Jeongyeon sighs softly and pats Momo on the back as she holds Tzuyu in her arms. "How about Sana scans the first half of the tickets so she, mommy, and Chaengie can go on the train and then you scan the other half?"
Momo hesitates, but she'd much rather be able to scan some of the tickets rather than none. "Okay," she mumbles. She watches Sana excitedly pass Nayeon's phone over the scanner three times before it's handed to her. Carefully, Momo passes the phone over the scanner. She giggles each time, excited at hearing the beep that lets Dahyun toddle past her to Nayeon.
Once they're all on the train and the babies are buckled into their seats, Nayeon lets out a relieved sigh. She lays her head back against the headrest and glances out the window, ignoring the chatter from Sana and Momo beside her about a famous YouTuber.
"Mommy, t'ain?" Chaeyoung asks as she looks out the window. She tugs on Nayeon's shirt sleeve and points to the other trains outside.
"That's right. We're on a train. Do you know where we're going?" Nayeon runs her hand through Chaeyoung's hair to try and gently get some of the knots out with her fingers.
Chaeyoung nods, a big grin on her face as she brings her arms around in a circle. "Goin' beach! Beach!"
"So smart," Nayeon says as she gives Chaeyoung a high-five. She's not too sure what her little motion means, but she's happy that Chaeyoung's learning.
"Mama I'm hungry," Sana says as she pokes Jeongyeon's arm for the hundredth time.
"Did you bring snacks in your backpack like I told you to?"
"No," Sana says quietly as she digs through her backpack. She pulls out a couple pencils, a thin chapter book, and a half-wrapped piece of candy.
"I brought some, Sa-tan. You can share mine." Momo holds up a bag of chips and sets it between her and Sana. She crunches down on a chip and hums to herself as she plays with her fidget toy.
Dahyun sits quietly beside Tzuyu as she thumbs through a pop-up picture book. She giggles to herself as a little dragon pops up on the next page. "Look, Mama." Dahyun reaches over Tzuyu who pokes the dragon on the page
"Is it a chicken?" Jeongyeon asks.
Dahyun laughs even harder and shakes her head. "No! It's a dwagon!"
"Oooh. That definitely looks like a chicken."
"No, Mama. Chickens aren't puwple."
"They aren't? I thought they were. You're telling me that all those purple chickens I've seen have been dragons?" Jeongyeon asks in fake shock.
Dahyun nods enthusiastically and brings her book back over on her lap.
The train ride was surprisingly calm. Dahyun and Chaeyoung had a small argument over one of Chaeyoung's toys that she brought with her, but it wasn't too bad. Sana and Momo slept after they finished off the bag of chips, and Tzuyu quietly looked out the window the whole time.
By the time they got on the beach and get all their beach gear set up, Jeongyeon's exhausted. She finishes rubbing sunscreen into Tzuyu's arm, much to her protest, and watches as Nayeon fights to get sunscreen on Momo's back before she runs off to jump into the water with Sana.
"It's cold!" Sana yells out from the water.
"Go in further! You'll warm up!" Jeongyeon playfully rolls her eyes as Sana shakes her head but goes further into the water. Momo quickly joins her, her high-pitched scream making a few heads turn as she goes in up to her knees.
Dahyun's already got a hole that's a couple inches deep by the time Jeongyeon gets any sunscreen on her face.
"Dubu, can you look up for me? I need to put sunscreen on your neck."
Dahyun whines and glances up for just a second before she looks back down into her little hole to scoop out more sand.
Jeongyeon shakes her head and gently tilts Dahyun's chin up just long enough to get sunscreen on her neck and nose. "Okay. Thank you, Dubu."
Tzuyu happily babbles away as she sits on Nayeon's lap as they sit on the edge of the beach towel. She buries her hands into the sand, happily squealing each time Nayeon digs her hands out.
"There's Tzu's hands!" Nayeon chuckles softly as Tzuyu buries her hands again, her baby's body vibrating with her giggles. "Oh no! They're gone again."
"Chaengie, can you and Dubu take Tzuyu and fill this bucket up with water?" Jeongyeon hands Chaeyoung a small, red plastic bucket and watches as she and Dahyun scramble to get to the edge of the water. Tzuyu's tugged along behind Dahyun, squealing happily as the water reaches her toes.
"Do you remember the first time we were here?" Nayeon asks as she lays back on the beach towel. She adjusts her sunglasses on her face, enjoying the warmth of the sun. She stretches out, her fingertips digging into the sand beside the towel.
Jeongyeon nods as she runs a hand through her hair. She squeezes some sunscreen out onto her hand and rubs it into her legs. "Of course I do. It was where Jihyo and I took our first vacation as a duo."
Nayeon props herself up on her elbows, tilting her sunglasses down so Jeongyeon can see her eyes. "Seriously, Jeong?"
Jeongyeon chuckles softly and leans over to kiss the tip of Nayeon's nose. "You know I'm only joking."
"It's where we went on our first date. You were so nervous."
Nayeon scoffs and smirks as she pushes her sunglasses up onto her head. She playfully shoves Jeongyeon's shoulder and shakes her head. "No way. You were shaking like a leaf."
"Yeah because I was so scared of you."
"No. It's because I was so beautiful and you'd never seen someone as breathtaking as me."
Jeongyeon rolls her eyes but her smile betrays her as she pulls Nayeon between her legs. She leans back against the pole of the umbrella and rubs Nayeon's shoulders. "Did I say all that?"
Nayeon silently nods, her shoulders relaxing from Jeongyeon's hands.
"I guess it does sound like me. Am I that cheesy?"
"Did you think we'd be here in ten years?"
Nayeon shakes her head and turns around to press quick kiss to Jeongyeon's cheek. She grabs her phone from her bag and flips the camera around to the littles playing in the water. "No way. I would have called myself crazy."
Jeongyeon watches the littles through Nayeon's phone. Tzuyu's sitting at the edge of the water, her legs covered in sand as Dahyun and Chaeyoung decide on how they're going to carry the water bucket back. Sana and Momo have only made it up to their bellies in the water and don't seem like they're going to make it any further.
Nayeon smiles as she takes a few pictures and videos. She turns the camera around to take a few selfies with Jeongyeon, some that will be kept in a folder only she needs to see.
"I think I would have believed myself," Jeongyeon says as she absentmindedly plays with Nayeon's hair. "I think I would have believed myself because I've always wanted to be this happy."
As cheesy as Jeongyeon can be, Nayeon can't help but appreciate the rare times that she's genuinely soft with her. She smiles and leans further into Jeongyeon's arms, setting her phone back in her bag.
They enjoy the sound of the waves and the distant chatter from the littles, chuckling as Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu haul their bucket of water back up to their set-up.
"Got it!" Dahyun and Chaeyoung yell in unison. Tzuyu claps her hands as she lays herself across Nayeon's legs. She buries her face in the beach towel, not caring that it's covered in sand.
"Awesome job, guys. Now can you build a sandcastle with it? I want it to be super big." Jeongyeon says as she points to an empty spot a few feet away from the beach towel.
"Mama, you can't build a sandcastle with water," Dahyun says as she giggles.
"Of course you can. You use the water to make the sand easier to build with.
Dahyun and Chaeyoung look at each other like Jeongyeon just discovered fire. They gasp and drag the bucket over to the spot Jeongyeon pointed to, grabbing their shovels and molds to start building.
"Where are Sana and Momo, Tzu?" Nayeon asks as Tzuyu looks up. Her face is littered with sand, but she's got the biggest grin on her face. She babbles something incoherent and points to Sana and Momo, still only up to their bellies in the water.
"Think they're ever going to make it all the way in?" Nayeon asks.
Jeongyeon shakes her head and chuckles. "Momo will get hungry before they make it another inch in."
