Hello furends! After seasons of silence, StarClan has finally spoken!

Camp has been reinforced with fresh materials and a sparkling new look. The forest feels more lively than ever, with the gentle breeze and soft birdsong uplifting cats' spirits. Clanmates are gathering to discuss the day's activities, but some can't shake the feeling they're being watched...

I was wondering what your design process is for the cats? Your shapes are very striking, and each cat looks like an individual but also meshes well with the other cats. 

i’m working on my own warrior cats world, and I’m struggling a bit with designs, do you have any suggestions?

At this point in my design process I just kinda instinctually use all the character design and diversity knowledge that I know. So I cant really describe my current process exactly step by step or anything, but i can share some tips and techniques that I use!

1: SHAPE LANGUAGE!!!!!

Here's a link to a pretty good resource explaining the basics!

I use lots of shape language, and my biggest tip with starting to use shape language with characters is asking the question "is this character Bouba or Kiki?"

I use round shapes and smooth lines for kind/soft characters and sharper shapes and angles for characters with more of an edge to their personality!

2: COLOR LANGUAGE! this is similar to shape language, I dont always use this one, specifically with my clangen cats, I just use their sprite colors. But! colors can be very useful!!!

Colors = emotions to us. Warm colors = kind, energetic or even angry; Cool = calm, quiet or sad; Light and Dark again both can me used to express these same things!

3: BREEDS! by this I mean animal breeds, when designing cats or other domestic animals you have the perk of many diverse looking breeds of the same critter! Use this!!!!

Your cat characters do not all need to be a default domestic short/long hairs (tho these are lovely to use, don't abandon them completely)

look up different breeds of cats, collect references! different breeds can even be used alongside shape language!

look at these cats!!! there are so many body type and shape options!!!
