“I am aware that time seems to have gotten away from me, and that this invitation comes late, but would you like to go out for dinner with me? I offered before, but my schedule got thrown off.” For Kai, this was extremely last minute. He liked having everything planned out ahead of time. 

“I understand if you’re busy at the moment of course.” Polite courtesy, not necessary considering who he was asking.

I JUST– UH–” He forces himself from his host, a bony hand freeing itself from his form in favor of grabbing onto the nearest surface– which happens to be a leg of his desk– before he begins to pull himself free. With some squirming and struggling, the black of his flesh escaping from his vessel turns back into soft fabric as he crawls. After a good minute, the process is complete, and Joi rises from his place on the ground, hastily dusting himself off as he kicks his body to the side, under his bed.

“There’s no hurry. If you need a moment to collect yourself, please take it. I know how harsh that process can be.” If Kai was honest with himself, it was a little unsettling when he did it. But such were quirks. They all unsettled him.
