I think more people need to remember and keep in mind that behind every single mass-produced plush that exists on this planet is a factory worker who has had to operate machinery in order to make these products. There is not a single factory out there that can make plushies entirely by machine, which is why it is so important to hold toy companies accountable for their workspace conditions.

No plush is worthy of existing if it is made from slave labour.

There are enough plushies out there that we could stop making them TODAY and there would be enough in existence for everyone on earth to have enough plushies, for generations.

Plushies are largely made from stuff that isn't biodegradable- Unless it's been deliberately burnt or shredded up, every single polyester plushie still exists, somewhere. They can be pretty much infinitely cleaned and repaired (gut it, wash with your choice of strong cleaning products at about hot-bath-temperature, dry it flat or hung evenly from all limbs and ears, darn or patch all the damaged parts, restuff with either its own stuffing if that's clean, or shredded bits from your rag bin, and enjoy) and are all designed to be loved and cuddled and to be appealing, a property which doesn't diminish with a bit of wear.

I've been running my own dollies' hospital on an on-off basis for ages, but there's increasing numbers of large scale plushie salvagers out there who professionally clean and restore old cuddlies who were destined for landfill, and pass them on to new owners, which are a great place to look for plushies with less immediate ethical concerns, likewise your local charity shops will have huge bags of secondhand cuddlies starting at about 10p... But I also thoroughly recommend rescuing your own. You'll be amazed at how quickly a cuddly toy you found in a bin becomes your favourite moral support creature, once you've spent a few hours washing it and repairing it.

How to restore your plushie’s eyes 🧸

If you have a very loved plush, you might be familiar with scratched and/or dull eyes. Whether it's from dropping them, brushing the fur, or just general wear, I’m here to tell you how to make them look brand new!

Things you will need:

Sandpaper (multiple grits, up to 5000 or 7000, I started with 2000 as that's what my pack came with as the roughest one)

Headlight polishing paste (you can get this at spare car part & all things for cars stores, possibly hardware stores, or Amazon)

A rag

Time!

She has made a remarkable recovery,.,.,., she finds it a bit hard to stand but that's okay she's doing her best <3

I washed her with warm soapy water, then put her in the washing machine with anti bacterial pods. I have received recommendation to replace her stuffing so that may be a surgery for tomorrow but for now she is recovering well
