I like the idea of both Arthur and Faroe knowing that something is wrong about each other and that isn't their daughter/father. But, while its a tragedy for Arthur, its a horror movie for Faroe.
Think about it. While Arthur knows what happened and struggles with Faroe being grown up and not his little girl, Faroe knows nothing. To her, her father just returned from a 6 month "trip". He looks similar but he acts different. He grew his hair out and it grows at a unnaturally fast rate (headcannon). He's jumpy. He's constantly asking questions he should know the answer to. He writes with his left hand dispite being right-handed and his handwriting is different (Its easier for John to write than Arthur)(another headcanon). Hes secretive. He's ALWAYS wearing gloves. People call him the "Dead Man's Mouthpiece". He's always mumbling/talks to himself and she has no idea who John is (a name he says alot). His confidence and the way he moves through the world feels different. Hes disjointed and frantic at times. He sometimes starts talking about something (possibly a memory she doesn't remember or a fact he treats like second nature) but catches himself and stops from finishing the sentence. She swears he's always had yellow eyes but the memories feel fuzzy. Wrong.
Thats not even considering Parker and Eddie's deaths, Arthur's disappearance after said deaths, and in the short time he visited Daniel he talked about horrors, being followed, and trying to find a group of people (and Daniel also almost got killed).
Faroe's smart, she'll eventually put the pieces together. Maybe she might start diving into more supernatural mythologies to find a answer. I mean Astronomy has strong connections to different mythos. Perhaps she comes to the answer that Arthur is possessed by some spirit/entity (partially true) or that isn't him at all but a changeling/fey of some kind.
Imagine how horrifying that is. To have to act like a man who looks like your father but isn't your father is. To look into those yellow eyes that never seem to fully focus and convince yourself those are your fathers eyes. To find photos of your father from before the "trip" with your now dead uncle. Photos where your father had short hair, dark eyes, no gloves, and no scar across his neck.

I was thinking about a female AU of project Hail Mary and thought of swapping the names. Her name is Riley Mary and the project is called “Project Saving Grace”
It was a really nice exorcize to redraw the cover in my style. I had fun with all the little light details and the shading.
suddenly thinking about the courtroom scene, of Stratt being accused of pirating literally everything, and Grace later having everything in the various computers aboard his ship that he gave a copy to Rocky without issue, and the beetles having such a massive memory capacity and...
Stratt was a historian. She wasn't just pirating for the sake of entertainment for the astronauts, she was doing a full historical backup of the planet. Who knows how much knowledge and communications ability, how much art and culture and history, how much niche knowledge of how to make specific pieces of modern technology or modern medicines, was lost as the wars for resources isolated everyone, as the death tolls led to the deaths of specialized trade workers and scientists, as the power grids failing across the planet (or cut off, potentially) led to all the cloud servers going dark. Stratt was facing methods of combating extinction and she did her best to ensure that if/when the Hail Mary worked, it would send back not just the hope of the future in the solution to the astrophage, but the restoration of history and culture and knowledge.
Just.... she pirated everything, and put it all on the Hail Mary.

one of my favorite lil headcanons about pjo (maybe ignoring hoo maybe not idk) is that percy post war is so riddled with ptsd and depression and mental health issues and he hangs around camp because he cares for it and the demigods there and he kind of becomes a pseudo head counselor there (its not officially his job but it basically is) and he ends up spending more time with mr d who is slightly more chill with him after everything and they slowly grow closer until the god of madness sees how percy is struggling with his mental health—especially since his ass hates burdening his friends and family so he doesn’t talk to anyone about it—and dionysus is just like. write it all down. use text to speech for your dyslexia. get it all down and see how you feel after that and we’ll go from there. and then adds on that they could use his stories to help prepare future demigods for the trials and tribulations of their lives as well as send out feelers for any demigods out there still in the mortal world. and that’s when percy writes the original five pjo books as a form of therapy and a way to offer understanding and assistance to future demigods

why i thought this was a safe neighbourhood
my take on eridian clothing is that its kind of like shirts. you wear shirts for formal events or work and its polite to wear them in public but its not unusual to see someone without one occasionally or not to wear one in your own home.
like the typical reaction for an eridian without clothing on in public is oh that person isnt wearing clothes. time to go on with my day. thered be different reactions from different people and cultures but the consensus is that sometimes people dont wear clothes.
rocky stopped wearing clothes after his crew died cause there was no one to wear clothes for y’know. then grace comes along and maybe in those 46 years hes unwoven all the clothes for supplies or maybe he went on a spiritual and or cultural journey and became a nudist or maybe he just doesnt see the point anymore.
he explains this to grace eventually and grace is chill with it. he doesnt really care about modesty or privacy anymore because after more than 4 years of having your best friend observe you performing all your bodily functions, whether due to science or because of the fact your best friend can hear through walls, yeah youd probably be chill with said best friend being nude all the time too. i mean youre basically nude to him all the time. and he shat in front of you within like a month of meeting. so.
they get to erid and this continues and no one can say anything because whos going to tell one of the guys who saved 2 planets and 2 civilizations, one of the guys you owe your life to, to put on a shirt?

the thing about the hobbit movies is that even with all the extra bullshit they added to have it stretch across three movies, richard armitage is giving a legitimately heartbreaking performance as a noble king trying to reclaim his home and eventually falling to greed and madness. like he's killing it. he's carrying those movies so hard i dont even remember giving a shit about thorin in the book but i was fully crying when he died in the movies. he put his whole thorussy into that performance if we're being real

there's this ridiculously soulmatey line in the phm book when grace is just kinda idly wondering aloud about why human and eridian technology are at such similar phases of development, and without thinking about it much rocky responds "has to be, or you and I would not meet." which he goes on to explain as (paraphrasing here) "if either planet were less advanced then we couldn't have built interstellar ships, but if either were more advanced then we could have dealt with the astrophage problem from home, so we'd have to be at around the same level to both be here, that's the only way it would make sense." what it sounds like though is "oh, that's easy: the two of us had to meet so the history of both of our entire species lined up in preparation to make it possible." what kind of tau-ceti-crossed red-petrova-line-of-fate nonsense is this.
I wondered if there was a story reason for Grace to wake up all ripped in the book. It could just have been Andy Weir having fun with long-distance space travel....or maybe trying to cover up a perceived plot hole ("wouldn't their muscles waste away??")
But now I am wondering if the sole reason he did that was so when Grace eventually has to pick up the the 300-lb rock alien he conceivably could.
i think the actual reason is that they were given steroids or some shit to keep them healthy/specifically so their muscles dont atrophy
