Brad Buchan

I learned how to make my own website. From starting the layout to adding in all the information. It was a huge learning experience because I hope to one day own my own business so I will eventfully need a website to promote and advertise my business. I also learned how to make a blog and at first I was so confused at how to use it. But after a couple weeks into the semester I found out how to use it the right way so now I'm comfortable at using a blog. I would recommend this class to anyone interested in owning their own business because you learn how to do a lot of things with a computer that you will need if you own your own business. I cant forget the processor. She was very helpful though out the semester at helping me with any questions I had. She used fun and interacting activities to help me learn how to use some of the programs for class.

I finished my twitter for class and I met all the requirements. I liked this assignment because I have a personal twitter account so it was different to use twitter fro a educational purpose. The only people that I followed were business owners and business pages. I mainly followed the people from the TV show shark tank because that is one of my favorite shows because its about people who became something from nothing. I like to follow what they do and what companies they invest or own because some of the products that the people make i actually find very useful in my own life.

For my survey I ended up getting the 25 people to take the survey. So I made the assignment requirement. I ended up having 8 questions on my survey so it wasn't long were the survey taker didn't get overwhelmed and quit the survey. They took the 5 minutes and answered what I thought was completely 100 percent honestly. I was surprised at the some of the answers that I did get. The only thing I would do different if I was to do this assignment over again would be to leave my survey open longer and send it to more people that way I could get more data.

After finishing my bibliography and starting my paper I realized I wouldn't be able to use 10 sources on my paper because some of the sources were poor and didn't really tie into my paper like I had originally thought. But I have managed to use 5 of the sources from there so those sources are not a complete lost. I wish I could of used all 10 but if they don't fit then you cant use them.

Working on my research paper in class and if I don't finish it in class then I will be finishing it at home tonight. I am about 3 pages done or about 900 words. I have my five scholarly sources used already I just need to find my other 5 sources to use. Its coming a long very nicely. I found working on my paper slowly has paid off more than it would have to wait until the last minute and then write the paper because the paper is actually longer than what I thought it was. Hopefully I get full points for this paper.

I am now used to blogging and am getting a lot better at using it. I think once this class is over that I will continue to use my blog because I like to use to talk about the assignments I do that way I get all my thoughts out in front of me.

I tried to use a template to make my infographic but the ones the professor gave to us didn't work for me. So I thought rather than skipping the assignment that I would just use Microsoft word to make it. I knew I was going to lose points but its better than not getting any points at all. I am now using the infographic to help me write my paper.

I have finished my website and it looks wonderful I think. I was really hard to get use to using weebly but after a couple days I was able to do everything I wanted and it turned out great. Everyone else but a couple people used dream weaver to make a website and all I heard about that was it was really hard to use so I think I got lucky using weebly. If you would like to take a look at it go to http://btbuchan651.weebly.com

Started my paper a couple days ago. Only typed about 300 words or so. Ill have to work on it more tonight. Don't want to wait till the last minute like I do in other classes.

Started my website today on weebly and its actually starting to look an actual website. Its hard to understand how to make things work right but it should get easier by next class.

Starting my own web page today. Going to start off by adding my pictures

The technology that was the easiest to give up was my laptop because I really only use it to do homework or some other type of school work. And since we are on spring break there is no reason for me to use it. The hardest form of technology to give up was my cell phone because I look at that thing probably a thousand times in one day. So not being able to talk to my friends and family who aren't around me was very hard because I like to know what's going on. Not being able to go on social media sites such as twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. wad hard because I spend my down time in the day on there killing time. The most challenging part of this assignment was not being able to watch TV. I like to watch the news in the morning when I wake up to see what's going on in the world. I also like to watch TV at the end of the day when going to bed because it gets me tired and its easier for me to fall asleep. What surprised me the most about this assignment is realizing how much us humans use and rely on technology in our everyday lives. I was hard for my mom to be around be during the assignment because I told here we cant listen to the radio in the car and we cant watch TV and she found it a little hard but she managed to make it through it with me.

I forgot to do the blog before starting my technology disconnect. I chose to do my assignment on the day that I had my tonsil surgery. So I was a little more focused on the surgery at the time. I was preparing for the disconnect by making sure all my electronics were either dead or unplugged before starting that way if I did try to use them then none of them work turn on. The most challenging aspect of the challenge was going to be the whole thing because I'm not used to not being able to use technology for a whole 24 hours. What I thought was going to be the hardest to do was not look at my phone. I constantly look at my phone throughout the day. The easiest part for me was not watching TV. I knew that after my surgery I was going to be in pain and not going to want to do anything. I am a little excited to do this assignment because I think it will be interesting to see if I am able to go the whole 24 hours with no technology. I think this assignment is important because people today are relying on technology to get through their day and by doing this we are able to take a step back and look at the big picture and just live a day without some sort of technology staring at us in the face. I think more people need to do this assignment just so that they  can realize that we are relying on technology for too many things. Maybe its just how the world is evolving but its good to slow down and change up the scene every once in a while to set you back in a good state of mind.

Finished my infograph for my survey. I didnt use a template that was recommended. I couldn’t get them to come up after I downloaded it. So I ended up just using word to get it done. I’d rather have it done a little different rather than not doing it at all. Hopefully I wont be docked to many points. I’m going to keep my fingers crossed!!

I started writing my survey questions. Got 6 questions so far. Not sure if I need anymore. After the survey I hope to find out if students learn better from using technology. Not really sure if I am going to get the required 25 people to complete the survey. Hopefully students from my other classes will be nice enough to take the survey.

I already use twitter for my personal life so I already know how to tweet and basically use the whole site. When I first heard we had to make a professional twitter I was excited because I know employers will look on Twitter for my account so I want them to stumble on my professional twitter and not my personal twitter. I feel a lot more comfortable using Twitter than I do Tumblr. Thus should be an easy project.
