Scene 1 — First Meal in America
Jimin, Jeongguk, and Jaekyung step into a cozy little restaurant to grab a bite before hitting the road again. A waitress swings by with menus, handing them out with a smile. “Ah, thank you,” Jaekyung says, giving a polite bow without even thinking. The others instinctively follow suit. As she walks off, Jimin starts laughing. “Yah, hold on. Why are we bowing in America?” “It’s just muscle memory with him,” Jeongguk grins, clapping Jaekyung on the shoulder as the youngest flips through the menu like nothing happened.
“Oh? No American burger?” Jeongguk mutters, leaning over Jaekyung’s shoulder to squint at the menu. “I know, but it was there,” Jimin says, pulling out his phone. “Look, see? It showed up when we searched in the car.” He flashes the pic to the two maknaes again like he’s proving a point. “Too bad,” Jeongguk sighs, glancing at the camera. “It looked solid.” Then he spots something at a nearby table. “That kid’s burger has avocado in it.” Jaekyung finally looks up. “Hyung, stop staring like that,” he laughs, swatting Jeongguk on the arm. “You’re embarrassing us.”
“No, I’m just saying. It’s probably the California burger,” Jeongguk shrugs, still debating which one to go for. “I think I’ll try the black and blue burger. I’m curious about that one,” Jimin says. “Alright, I’ll go with that too,” Jaekyung nods. When the waitress comes by, the three of them place their orders. Since they ordered quite a bit, she returns balancing a full tray, prompting Jimin and Jaekyung to hop up and help her with the plates. “Aw, thank you,” she smiles. She starts pointing out which burger is which as they arrange everything, the two boys placing them down before sliding back into their seats.
“Wah, the food looks really good,” Jaekyung says, eyes fixed on his burger. “It’s huge.” Jeongguk’s already taken a bite and is nodding in approval. Jaekyung follows suit, clearly enjoying his too, but Jimin’s expression tells a different story. “What is this?” he asks, frowning as he tries to chew through the flavour. “Gorgonzola,” Jaekyung answers with a mouth half full, barely glancing up. “Mm… yeah, not really my style,” Jimin mutters, reaching for his drink. “It’s what you ordered,” Jeongguk points out between bites, totally unbothered. “I was curious. I wanted to try it,” Jimin huffs, shaking his head. He looks over at Jaekyung who’s working through the exact same burger like it’s the best thing he’s ever had.
Jimin plops his burger onto the maknae’s plate with a cheeky grin. “Here, eat well~” he says in a sugary tone, giggling as Jaekyung gives him a side-eye. Before long, the trio moves on to the steak sandwich they ordered to share. All three of them dig in without hesitation. “Ah, that was so good. I’m full,” Jimin sighs, leaning back and patting his stomach. Jaekyung slouches in his seat, head tilted back, eyes fluttering shut. “I could literally fall asleep right now,” he mumbles. Jimin chuckles as he pulls his beanie back on. “Come on, let’s bounce. Time to hit the road.”
After strapping on their life jackets, the boys each hop into their own single-seater kayak. The captain helps Jimin get settled, while a few feet away, Jeongguk and Jaekyung watch intently before handling it on their own. They start paddling out from the boardwalk, but barely ten seconds in, and there’s a splash. Jeongguk’s kayak flips, sending him straight into the lake. Jimin and Jaekyung burst into laughter, their voices echoing across the water. While Jimin paddles on further ahead, Jaekyung slows near the splash zone, grinning. Jeongguk surfaces, completely drenched but laughing too. “I didn’t know it would flip over that fast!” he shouts, wiping water from his eyes as the staff rushes in to help.
“Hyung, how was the water?” Jaekyung calls out, clearly amused, watching Jeongguk bob in the lake like a soggy duck. Jeongguk throws a thumbs up with a sheepish grin. “It’s fine, this is entertainment!” he jokes, waiting for staff to bring his kayak back. Jaekyung laughs and turns his attention forward, starting to paddle out toward where Jimin is drifting peacefully. “Hyung-nim, wait for me!” he shouts, though his movements are careful, definitely not trying to go full Jeongguk. Jimin glances back, slowing his paddle to let the younger catch up. The breeze brushes gently against the surface of the lake, the ripples soft. “This is so peaceful,” Jimin says, his voice calm as the two of them float side by side, the chaos of a moment ago now just background noise.
Meanwhile, back on the boardwalk, Jeongguk sits wrapped in a towel, rubbing at his damp hair as he glares half-heartedly at the two figures floating peacefully in the distance. “I wish they’d both get flipped over too,” he mutters, pouting as he watches them chat like they’re on a lakeside honeymoon. “Do they have their phones on them?” he asks aloud, half-joking, half-plotting. Eventually, once he’s dried off and his pride has recovered a bit, Jeongguk gives it another shot. This time, he lands in the kayak without incident and starts paddling toward the others with determined strokes. “Are you okay? Don’t catch a cold,” Jaekyung calls out, concern peeking through his teasing tone as he spots Jeongguk approaching. “It’s okay. I’m fine,” Jeongguk replies, still slightly damp but grinning. “I’m just glad I could create some entertainment for the show.”
The boys kayak in sync, gliding across the water with just a few feet between them. The sunlight reflects off the lake, and everything feels still until Jimin breaks the calm. “Let’s go over there and take a picture. I brought my phone with me,” he says, pointing toward a scenic patch of trees. “Flip over!” Jeongguk yells immediately, the agent of chaos returning. Jaekyung bursts out laughing. “If you flipped over again right after saying that, it’d be hilarious.” Fuelled by both embarrassment and determination, Jeongguk picks up speed, paddling toward them like a man on a mission. His brows are furrowed, jaw set, dead serious for once. “Yah! Stop!” Jaekyung shouts, half-laughing, half-concerned. But Jeongguk just keeps going until—bump. His kayak taps gently against Jaekyung’s, the dramatic chase ending in the softest collision imaginable. Jaekyung rolls his eyes, grinning. Jeongguk? Smug. “I made it without flipping. That’s growth.”
“Ah, anyways. This view is insane. It’s so pretty,” Jaekyung says, taking it all in as the boys float beneath a quaint little bridge, sunlight spilling through the gaps above. “You two go up there, I’ll take a picture,” Jimin offers, already reaching for his phone. Jeongguk quickly paddles ahead to get into position, striking a casual pose until Jaekyung swoops in last-second, gliding right in front of him and flashing a peace sign, full grin on display. “Take the picture!” Jaekyung beams. “Yah!” Jeongguk shouts, laughing as he tries to peek around Jaekyung’s broad back. “Why are you built like a wall?!” Jimin can barely keep the camera steady from giggling, snapping a few chaotic shots of the bickering pair. After a second, Jaekyung finally steers his kayak to the side so they’re lined up next to each other. “Better?” he teases. “Much,” Jeongguk huffs, fixing his hair dramatically. Jimin chuckles, clicking a few more photos.
After cruising around and soaking up the vibes for a while, the boys start feeling the pedal power fade. They slowly make their way back to the boardwalk, muscles buzzing from all the paddling. Once they hop out, they stretch a bit and get to work packing up, ready to hit the road again and keep the adventure rolling.
The boys finally pull up to their campsite for the night, the sky already inked in navy with stars peeking through. Jimin swings open the door to their tiny one-room caravan and steps inside, eyes lighting up. “Wah… I love the vibe here,” he says, spinning slowly to take it all in. Then he spots the bed. “Oh, look. We’re sharing a bed.” From outside, Jaekyung pokes his head in with raised brows. “All three of us are gonna sleep there?” he asks, a mischievous grin tugging at his lips. Jimin turns his camera on the maknae, laughing. “This is perfect for him. He loves to cuddle.” Jaekyung pumps his fist in a tiny cheer before stepping all the way in. “It’s nice and cozy in here,” he nods, already claiming the bed like it’s his own.
The bed is tucked against the wall beneath a large window that floods the room with light. A small table sits beside it, near the door, while the kitchen setup occupies the opposite side. Just next to the kitchen is a door leading to the bathroom. “I’d love to live in a place like this,” Jaekyung says, sprawled comfortably across the bed. Jeongguk walks in after fiddling with the bike outside. “Wait, are we all supposed to sleep in that one bed?” he asks, scanning the space. “Jaekyung-ah must be thrilled.” “That’s exactly what I said!” Jimin chimes in with a laugh. Jaekyung stays put, eyes closed, soaking it all in. “Nice. There’s even a shower booth.”
“We could whip up some ramyeon,” Jimin suggests, as Jaekyung props himself up on his elbows, watching his hyungs move around. “Hyung, are you really making ramyeon? Make some for me too,” he says sweetly, his tone full of childlike charm. He flashes Jeongguk a finger heart just as he starts pulling out ingredients for dinner. “You little brat, lying there while I do all the work? Huh?!” Jeongguk teases, a smirk tugging at his lips. “Nooo~ it’s not like that,” Jaekyung protests, trying to sound innocent. “It’s just… you make the best food.”
Jeongguk clicks his tongue as he starts prepping. “I’ll cuddle you extra tight tonight,” Jaekyung says with a grin, shifting around on the bed while scrolling through his phone. “No thanks,” Jeongguk replies, laughing. Outside, Jimin tends to the fire, and moments later, he steps back inside. “Yah, it’s ready. We just need the grill now,” he announces, then spots Jaekyung still lounging in bed. “What’s this, huh? What are you doing?” he asks, mock-accusatory, striding over to the maknae. Jaekyung sits up quickly, flashing a guilty smile. “Nothing! Just checking my messages.” “No, he just wants to be pampered as the youngest,” Jeongguk chimes in, shaking his head with a half smile.
“Aish, you’re too cute for me to stay mad,” Jimin mutters, though he still gives Jaekyung a gentle bonk on the head with his mitten-covered hand. “Guys, come taste this sauce. Tell me what you think,” Jeongguk calls out from the kitchen. The two wander over, curious, as Jeongguk scoops up a small spoonful and dips his pinkie into it. He holds it out to Jaekyung first, who leans in and licks it off. “Wah… hyungie, that’s amazing,” Jaekyung says, eyes wide with awe. Jeongguk repeats the gesture for Jimin, who tastes it and nods in agreement. “It really is good.” “Right?” Jeongguk grins, clearly proud of his creation.
The boys head outside toward the fire, ready to start cooking. “Let’s grill one with the sauce and one without,” Jeongguk suggests, setting the plan in motion. The three huddle around a small table as Jeongguk begins marinating the pork, carefully working the sauce into the meat. “Hyung, I’ll help with the grilling this time,” Jaekyung says, raising his hand with determination. “Cute,” Jimin chuckles, reaching over to gently pinch Jaekyung’s neck, amused by his enthusiasm.
As Jeongguk places the meat on the grill, he spots an unexpected guest sizzling alongside it—a bug that’s landed right on the hot surface. “Yah, what do you think you’re doing?” he mutters, reaching for his tongs to flick it away. Jaekyung leans in for a closer look. “That thing’s getting roasted. It’s definitely dead,” he says, shaking his head with a grimace. “I bet we’ll end up eating at least one bug tonight.” Jeongguk groans. Jaekyung just shrugs and pats his shoulder. “It’s fine. Bugs are packed with nutrients.” Jeongguk raises an eyebrow. “Great. Then you can have all of them. I’ll even donate my portion.”
Once the food is fully cooked, the boys carry their feast over to the bench beside the caravan and settle in. The spread includes grilled meat, steaming ramyeon, and a mix of vegetables. Barely a minute into the meal, Jimin fumbles and drops a piece of meat onto the ground. He glances sheepishly between Jeongguk and Jaekyung, flashing a guilty smile. “I’m sorry… You guys worked so hard to make this,” he says. “It’s fine. We’ve got plenty,” Jaekyung replies with a grin. He picks up a juicy piece of pork and holds it out to Jimin’s lips. Jimin accepts it gratefully.
As they eat, Jeongguk breaks the silence. “Remember that Vlive we did with Taehyungie hyung?” Jimin grins. “The one where he kept dropping brand names?” Jaekyung laughs, the memory clearly still fresh. “I really miss Taehyungie,” Jimin says, scooping some ramyeon onto his plate. “Want to video call him?” Jaekyung offers, pulling out his phone and checking the time. “Should we loop in Namjoon hyung too? Maybe get them talking to each other?”
Jaekyung dials Taehyung, who answers almost instantly. “Oh? V hyung’s working right now,” the maknae says. “Ah, is he?” Jimin replies. Just then, Jeongguk calls out, “Oi, oi!” as Jaekyung sets the phone down on the table and moves into frame. “What are you up to, Taehyung-ah?” Jeongguk asks. “I’m in the middle of a photoshoot,” Taehyung replies. “Hyung’s working hard. Nice job,” Jaekyung nods approvingly. “We’re filming for a show,” Jeongguk adds. After chatting for a few more seconds, Jaekyung mentions they’re going motorcycle riding tomorrow. “Really? Can you do that on your show?” Taehyung asks, sounding intrigued.
“Okay!” Jeongguk says, abruptly leaning in to end the call. He bursts into laughter, and Jaekyung quickly joins in. “Yah, why’d you do that? He’s gonna be mad,” Jaekyung says, grabbing his phone as it buzzes with a new message. “He texted right away,” he adds. “What’d he say?” Jimin asks, curious. The maknae reads out what it says on the text but the words have been bleeped out—clearly, Taehyung was swearing in the messages. The boys all crack up, laughing together. “Ah, isn’t Taehyungie hyung adorable?” Jeongguk grins. “Text him back,” he says. “Tell him he’s the best and that we love him.”
Jimin dials Yoongi, who picks up with a flat, emotionless “What?”, and Jimin and Jaekyung immediately snicker. “What?” Yoongi repeats, sounding just as deadpan. “Yoongi hyungie,” Jaekyung says, leaning into Jimin with a grin, “can’t you greet your dongsaengs with a little more enthusiasm?” “Is this seriously why you called me?” Yoongi replies. “Hyung-nim, we’re at Hannam Intersection right now,” Jimin says, trying to sound serious. Jaekyung stifles a laugh behind his hand, leaning even closer into Jimin. There’s a brief pause on the other end, Yoongi clearly processing the nonsense.
“Aren’t you in America?” Yoongi asks, his tone still flat. Jaekyung snickers again. “Yah, that was fast. He knew right away,” Jeongguk says, clearly impressed. “Ah, hyung-nim, I’m genuinely moved,” Jimin replies dramatically. “Of course I knew. I knew you were heading there,” Yoongi says, unfazed. Jimin then shifts his camera to frame both Jaekyung and Jeongguk. “I’m with Jaekyung and Jeongguk,” he announces.
After chatting a bit longer, the boys say their goodbyes to Yoongi and start tidying up before heading to bed. Jaekyung immediately throws himself onto the center of the bed, limbs sprawled out in a dramatic starfish pose. Without hesitation, Jeongguk climbs on top of him and settles in like it’s the most natural thing in the world. Jimin is still in the bathroom. “Aish, why are you built like a brick?” Jaekyung groans, squirming under Jeongguk’s weight. Jimin steps out, takes one look, and snorts. “So this is the sleeping arrangement?”
Jeongguk rolls off Jaekyung and claims the spot by the wall. As Jimin approaches the bed, he lets out a weary sigh. “Yah, I think I nearly died,” he mutters. “I might have to go again.” Jaekyung turns to him with a hint of concern. “You okay? Maybe it’s just an upset stomach.” “Could be a stomach bug,” Jeongguk chimes in. Jimin had been feeling off earlier too. He’d been running to the bathroom multiple times throughout the trip. “I’m seriously losing it right now,” he says, trying to laugh it off. “Don’t worry,” Jaekyung reassures him. “We’ll grab some medicine for you tomorrow.”
Once the lights are off, Jaekyung props himself up on one elbow and stretches out an arm. “Hyung, come here,” he murmurs. The boys drift off peacefully, all cuddled up together in a tangle of limbs and warmth. By morning, Jeongguk and Jaekyung are already up and moving, but Jimin remains buried under the blanket. “Hyungie, how’s your stomach?” Jaekyung asks softly. “My nose hurts,” Jimin replies groggily. Turns out, Jaekyung had accidentally elbowed him in the face during the night. “I’m sorry,” Jaekyung says with a pout, climbing onto the blanket and wrapping Jimin in a hug through the covers. “You really came all the way here just to suffer,” Jeongguk laughs.
“I came all this way just to get smacked by Jaekyungie’s elbow,” Jimin jokes, voice muffled under the blanket. “And to catch a stomach bug,” Jeongguk adds. A little while later, Jeongguk and Jaekyung step outside to the same picnic bench they’d used the day before, soaking in the crisp morning air. Jeongguk sips on his coffee, while Jaekyung, an unapologetic coffee hater, opts for a chilled chocolate milk instead. Still feeling guilty, Jaekyung prepares a cup of coffee for Jimin as a peace offering. Thankfully, the staff had managed to find some medicine quickly, and the two youngest pour out a dose for Jimin. “You have to take this if you want to live,” Jeongguk says dramatically, handing it over. Jaekyung gently presses his thumb to Jimin’s temple in a quiet gesture of comfort as Jeongguk heads back outside.
Outside, Jeongguk starts building a stone tower, the clinking sounds eventually stirring Jimin from sleep. Jaekyung settles beside him on the bed, wrapping an arm around his shoulder. “You okay? I’m sure it won’t last long,” he says gently, pulling Jimin into his side. “I’ll be fine. I’m strong like that,” Jimin replies with a faint smile. Soon, it’s time to get ready for the day. As they step out of the caravan, Jimin holds Jaekyung’s hand, steady and warm. The older bursts into laughter when he spots Jeongguk’s stone tower. “Please remove these toxins from my body,” Jimin says dramatically, handing his camera to Jaekyung for a moment. He drops to his knees in front of the tower, hands clasped in mock prayer. “Make a wish,” Jeongguk grins. “Please remove these toxins from my body,” Jimin repeats solemnly. “That should do it,” Jaekyung laughs. “You’ll be better in no time.”
