“Plugged in”

Bryce Wolkowitz was recently featured in Southeby’s Magazine. Ben Luke discovers the gallerist’s darkroom beginnings and his Sotheby’s Gallery Network picks. 

Host Carol Anne Riddell sits down with photographer, Stephen Wilkes, whose book of photographs literally takes us from “Day to Night”.

Michael Hoppen Gallery is proud to present a two-floor exhibition of newly released and sold-out works by Japanese artist Sohei Nishino. 

Nishino’s Everest draws inspiration from the maps used traditionally by pilgrims to navigate holy sites. Fascinated by the historical significance and symbolism of Everest, Nishino shot almost 400 rolls of film during his 23 day journey from Lucla to Gokyo Peak. He relates this intense journey through the Himalayas to those undertaken by sherpas and other local people who call the mountain home. Instead of following a linear course to a fixed destination, as many of visitors to Everest do, Nishino captures his experience of the road from a dense and meticulously planned variety of vantage points. Whilst Nishino continues to explore his interest in the relationship between people and their environment, his map of Everest illustrates an intense engagement with this harsh geography, and the ways that it shapes the lives of local populations. Nishino has described this project as one of the toughest periods of shooting, and in its unprecedented scale and use of colour it stands apart from his other work to date.

TATYANA MURRAY IN THE CHRISTIE’S AND LE CIEL FOUNDATION FUNDRAISING EXHIBITION AND AUCTION WISDOM AND NATURE

Wisdom and Nature is an exploration of interconnectivity, the beauty of the planet, and the wisdom of its people. Funds raised during the auction will support locally-run educational projects designed to preserve culture and knowledge among indigenous communities, in addition to other projects designed to bridge the know-how of modernity with the wisdom of ancestral traditions.

The exhibition will be on view at Christie’s in New York from February 28 - March 4 and at Christie’s in London from April 6 - 9.

The auction in aid of Le Ciel Foundation will take place at Christie’s in London on April 8, 2020.

JOSE PARLA: solo exhibition “José Parlá: It’s Yours” opens at the Bronx Museum on February 26, 2020

José Parlá: It’s Yours will be the first solo museum exhibition of the internationally renowned artist in New York City. The new paintings evoke the artist’s personal connection to the Bronx, as well as the borough’s influence, which have helped to shape how Parlá views painting history and cities around the world. José Parlá: It’s Yours is organized by guest curator Manon Slome.

The opening reception will be held from 6:00 - 9:00 PM on February 26.
