brace yourself, this is a rambly post and hopefully it makes sense haha
people should be allowed to criticize characters actions without others accusing them of “picking sides“
the characters actions are there to be picked apart and dissected and theorized upon, and part of that is criticizing or praising some of their actions!! me saying “hmm, Zaros is being hypocritical by acting like he’s all morally superior, i don’t think him doing that is very fair.” isn’t me saying i think his whole goal is wrong and he’s in the wrong and the Earis is completely in the right, i’m literally just saying that i don’t agree with that one facet of how he acts
characters, well fleshed out ones, are not black and white!! they’re multidimensional!
and let’s say someone is picking sides: what does it matter?? why is that such a bad thing? in this story, the listeners are given two sides, two people competing: Zaros and the Earis, it’s set up for you to pick sides, and acting like someone is wrong or bad for picking a side, in my opinion, doesn’t help make this fandom a place people will want to post.
don’t get me wrong, you can debate with people all you want if you disagree and the person is up for it, you can share your opinion kindly and respectfully, but acting like those people have committed a moral failing for not choosing the person you think is in the right is wild to me, making posts being like “i can’t believe anyone isn’t on Zaros’s side, what is wrong with people” is wild to me.
you’re allowed to say you side with one person over another, but there’s a big difference in stating your opinion and criticizing someone with a different opinion: for example
Statement A: “I don’t like Audric for what he did to Xanthus, i think he’s a bad person.”
and statement B: “I don’t like Audric, i don’t understand how anyone can! he’s so horrible and people defending him or liking him are crazy,”
while statement A expresses a criticism and opinion on a character, Statement B is a criticism of not only the character, but also a criticism of people in the fandom, which is, in my opinion, not very nice :D
i don’t know, this is very rambling and i don’t know if i’m even if gonna post this, but there has been a weird tension in the fandom lately, which makes me really sad :_] i love the noble trials and i love talking about them with people, and i don’t want people to get scared out of sharing their thoughts about said series.
in conclusion, it’s okay to criticize characters and opinions of said characters (if done respectfully), it’s okay to pick sides of you do so desire, but criticizing the people doing those things isn’t very nice :D
