Controversial take but Luca's the one who cleans and Alberto still has those feral instincts.
Yep, it's a drawover! Original (I think? I can't find any other versions) image and link below cut. Makes slightly more sense in dungeon meshi perhaps.
Thought I might post the speed draw for my latest artwork. For those who donât know itâs based on the headcannon that Albertoâs freckles look like stars to Luca.
alberto scorfano's last name from luca the pixar movie contains the italian word for "orphan".

The BEST trope is when a character tells another âletâs run away together, we can leave all of this behind and start a new life somewhereâ and gets rejected. And then the rest of the tragedy unfolds
Every luberto angst fic ever. Absolutely kills me but it is truer to the version of cannon that damn rat wants to have. Not that I like that though. May the gay fish be cannon forever.
accidentally said the same thing twice 2nd to last reblog but fixed it now.
I also decided to draw Luca for @gr1ll3d-ch33s3âs request :))))
I love the Kenna luberto ship art but I feel like ever since it came out thereâs been so much misinformation and it has been bugging me so:
1. The ship art wasnât made by the main creator. The main creator, Enrico Casarosa, made the movie with the intent to have it be a friendship and a platonic story. He supports the ship but it wasnât his goal. The art was made by Kenna who I believe is a co-director or story lead or smth. A higher up crew member for sure but not the main creator donât erase Enrico
2. It is not inherently canon. Kenna introduced the post as unsanctioned (meaning not official) fanart. Their word is not inherently canon to Luca as they are not the only or primary creator. Everyone says theyâre canon now and as much as I would love that to be true I care deeply for semantics.
3. Kennaâs ship art is NOT CONCEPT ART. It was a fanart post made after the film came out, it was not an intended explicitly queer story concept that Disney censored (not that Disney doesnt do that all the time but letâs point fingers in the right places). If there were any queer plans itâs unrelated to Kennas art and it was not an openly shown romance between the boys.
I love luberto and Luca is dripping with queer allegory but we can appreciate that without rewriting the intention of the movie and erasing Enricoâs vision or authority over his own world and characters.
Just to clarify/add onto some things by op:
The main creator, Enrico Casarosa, made the movie with the intent to have it be a friendship and a platonic story.
Luca (2021) was not always meant to be a wholly platonic story, devoid of romance. In some of the earliest plot lines for the movie, Luca was to have a pretty obvious crush on Giulia. However Giulia, being a lesbian, was not ever to be interested in him. For those two, the end goal was always friendship and never romance, but that canât be said for Alberto and Luca.
Enrico Casarosa and his team did discuss the possibility of a gay romance between Luca and Alberto, it never came to fruition. Not because of censorship, but because they agreed it wasnât the proper direction to head in.
The art was made by Kenna who I believe is a co-director or story lead or smth.
McKenna (Kenna) Jean Harris, the creator of the art, was the story lead, a supervisory role over story artists (such as the story boarders) for Luca and the writer and director of the sequel short film Ciao Alberto. They can pitch scenes, but they donât often have a lot of control over exactly where the plot goes.
I love luberto and Luca is dripping with queer allegory but we can appreciate that without rewriting the intention of the movie and erasing Enricoâs vision or authority over his own world and characters.
Enrico Casarosa's vision for Luca wasn't not to be queer allegory but for its allegory to be ambiguous. Excluding Italians, the movie was not made with any one specific community in mind, so every different reading of the movie---even those with heavy amounts of crew support---is at best dubious in canonicity. This includes the queer reading.
#I just feel like it boils Luca down to a gay controversy while overshadowing projects that actually suffered from erasure #like Elio or more importantly all the TRANS CHARACTER ERASURE #THAT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAT TWO FISH BOYS WHO WERE NEVER MEANT TO BE EXPLICITLY IN LOVE WITH EACH OTHER #you wanna get mad at Disney censorship donât use Luca USE WIN OR LOSE. USE MOON GIRL. USE ELIO
As op said, Luca did not suffer immediate censorship so much as it faced controversy. Ever since it has become associated with the queer community, it has been repeatedly maligned by both its audience and Pixar executives such as Peter Doctor, and its achievements, such as being the most globally streamed movie of 2021 with 10.6 billion viewing minutes, have been understated and swept under the rug.
Despite this, Luca is still a very popular movie, and even in the controversy that followed its release, it spoke of a demand for queer stories by Pixar which allowed future queer stories a better fighting chance of actually coming to fruition. And in the following and forementioned queer stories*, there have been references made to Luca. Giulia Marcovaldo, tritagonist, made a brief cameo in Elio, and Win or Lose featured Parole Parole, a song originally performed by Mina Mazzini, the star of Luca's soundtrack.
Basically, at best, Luca walked so Elio and Win or Lose could have a chance to run. And, at worst, Luca faced intense backlash so Elio and Win or Lose could get slammed by censorship. Just like in team Pickles, there really aren't any winners here.
*actively choosing to not comment on Moon Girl because I haven't watched it.

i rewatched Luca again and i told my friend who watched with us to watch and replace every âthey wonât accept sea monsters/they canât find out weâre sea monstersâ type shtick with âitâs because weâre gayâ
and after that and after seeing HOW MUCH THEY CLING TO EACH OTHER (because no luca there was no need to Jump On Albertoâs Face even if he was in his sea monsters form)(also: âmy friend smells amazingâ) she was like nono yeah theyâre gay this is factually a movie about homosexuals
(and obviously coming of age too and learning to find balance between freedom and responsible safety but thatâs another post)
