BIG

The walls still faintly smell of the fire that culled out the town. Levi is sitting on the couch, legs pulled up against his chest, leaning sideways. He’s got his arms folded over the big over stuffed arm, staring out the sliding glass doors.

There’s a squirrel in the yard.

Levi growls.

SMALL

Levi starts whining something fierce.

“I know,” says Harris. He herds his brother over to the blankets. “But you gotta stay down here. Just the one day, Levi.”

The small windows at the very top of the wall have been busted open, so there’s at least fresh air spilling into the room. They’re barely five inches wide, but they’re long and there’s three of them. Fresh air, but no way for Levi to get out.
