Helped by a dragon, a phoenix, a unicorn, and a tortoise, P'an-ku worked hard, cutting the earth into shape, making the valleys and the mountains. And when he died his flesh became the earth's soil, his blood the seas and rivers, his eyes the sun and moon, his breath the wind, his voice thunder. The parasites that fed upon his body became the ancestors of the human race.
