She wasn’t about to argue with him — if he said he was fine, if he wanted to be fine, it definitely wasn’t her place to state otherwise. He looked a bit irked, still, and thrown off-balance, but perhaps the best thing for her to do at this juncture would be to let it lie and change the subject.
“ So what’s your name, anyways? Or am I gonna have t’ call you cutie forever. ”
He looks back over at her, cheeks mildly pink. But just barely so. "Riley." Not that he would mind being called cutie.
"What about you? --Am I forever to be doomed to call you 'That klutzy girl?" He's tentatively teasing again, his thoughts moving away from the uncomfortable subject from before. Being reminded that he was alone was always uncomfortable.

"Oh, Yeah I did.---"
"Have you read it? My book?"
The smile doesn’t fade. ”It’s my kingdom after all. I’m the princess of all things nerdy. Or most of them. Usually video games, a few bits of literature, science, you know the usual…” She was rambling now, his attention to what she was saying was clearly beginning to waver - did he find her boring or was he just pissed at what she’d said.
”I’m normally a pretty kind person…I say nice things sometimes like, like I really enjoyed your first book Mr. Poole, or when can we expect another one….” Pausing to look at the ground she kicked at the floor absent mindedly. “I’m sorry- I don’t know how to talk to people sometimes, and I guess insulting them is my new way of saying ‘Hey you’re book was awesome. Sorry…I’ve thoroughly embarrassed myself…in front of a pretty well known writer… I should probably go…yeah…”
He's not entirely paying attention, still slightly annoyed. He got enough judgement from his friends, he didn't really want it from strangers as well.
Her next words, however, were impossible for him to miss. "Wait... You know who I am? And you.. You read my book?" He's flabbergasted, and excited and just... "You actually read my book, and liked it?"
No one ever tells him that. He was pretty sure that Ben still hadn't read it. Being told that someone had actually read and liked his book was huge and happened almost never. It had gotten to the point where he almost didn't tell people that he had written the book anymore.
"I uhh.. I have most of the second one written, but I wasn't thinking I was going to try and publish it with how much the first one was a flop. My best friend didn't even read it."

where did you get all your fab riley icons?
\ Well hello Nonnie! My wonderful and lovely Justin Bartha icons are all currently from hollow-art.com. Mostly because I’m lazy. Over the next week or so I intend to make my own, but for now I use the wonderful ones I have found. Which can be found here and obviously belong to the wonderful people who made them!

[ eyes slide over; he can see the appreciative expression on the other’s face. Q smiles, faint but noticeable, and allows him to take a more in depth look at the laptop. ]

[ riley has to resist the urge to reach out and touch the computer. Instead he takes in everything about it he possibly can with his eyes. ]
"That's one way of putting it. It looks amazing, how are the graphics on it?"
[ ok so he's going to be a little nosy now, but it really was a nice looking computer. he had spent vast quantities of time and effort getting his own laptop to run as smoothly as he could. not to mention the money. ]
Riley frowned, looking down at where some of his ice cream bar had just fallen to the ground. This is what he gets for not paying attention. With a sigh he eats the last bite before throwing the stick in a nearby trashcan with an annoyed noise.
"I wanted to eat that...." He's talking to himself for the most part, vocalizing his annoyance.
The smugness of what comes with his retrieval of the pen is something impossible to hide. ”All the nerds are doing it now a days. Join your brethren, ascend to nerddom.” It hadn’t occurred to her that she didn’t even know his name, or that this was the first time they’d ever met. But his responses drove her on, she wasn’t about to walk away from being sassed.
”No one ever asks for opinions on their life choices they just….receive them.. You’re very welcome~” She accompanies her statement with a small curtsy. Maybe it was a bit overkill but—
He turns and glares at her. "Ha, nerddom. Because I haven't heard that before." Cue sarcastic eye roll. He actually hadn't heard that particular phrasing before, but the sentiment was a familiar one he remembered all too well from high school and college.
"How very... kind of you." It's pretty clear that 'kind' is not the word he means. Obnoxious or annoying might be a little more accurate.

Huh. The realization that she’d crossed some as yet invisible line bled the hardened mischief away from her features, replacing it with commingled concern, slight guilt, and sympathy. Not — pity, but sympathy. Fellow-feeling.
She knew a thing or five about being lonely, and … maybe this guy wasn’t so different.
“ Hey, man, I’m sorry. I thought we were still bantering. Are you — are you okay? ”
There's a momentary look of confusion on his face, but it passes quickly. Was he that transparent? There's a slight frown on his face as he speaks, turning his face to the side a little so that he's not really looking at her. "Yeah I'm fine."
He doesn't want pity from anyone, but somehow he gets the feeling that she doesn't pity him. She doesn't even know him though, and he doesn't actually know her, there was no real way for him to know.

There was no way to describe the noise he made as anything other than a squeak, his limbs flailing slightly as the girl pushes him up against a nearby wall and kisses him. He had no idea what made her want to kiss him, but suddenly she was kissing him and for a moment he doesn't know what to do. He manages to kiss back for a moment before his brain catches up and he pushes her away, looking at her with wide eyes.
"What was THAT?" Pardon him, he's a little confused. He also may not know what to do now.
