Self Para || When Brody Met Kara
This whole blind date thing was a stupid idea. One, Brody didnβt even want to date right now. (Well, unless it was Rachel, of course.) Two, his plate was too full and it certainly didnβt have room for a girlfriend. (Again, unless it was Rachel.) To him, this was all a huge waste of time for everyone involved, and he would end up being the jerk who made a poor girl sad because he didnβt want to date her. This is exactly the kind of thing he was trying to avoid in this new phase of his life.Β
Still, it was hard to tell Rachel Berry no, and she was even more impossible now that she was in this new relationship. There was no backing out, so Brody arrived at the restaurant early, avoiding his ex and her new boyfriend cuddled up in a booth not far away from his table. This all felt like a message she was sending him.Β βIβm done with you and found someone better, so you better hurry up and be done with me, too.β He sat facing away from the new couple, not wanting to be tempted to witness exactly how much happier Rachel was with Jaime.
Kara showed up only a few minutes later, dressed in a gorgeous black dress and matching strappy heels. Standing up, Brody held out his hand and let out a nervous laugh.Β βHi, you must be Kara.β The woman nodded with a warm smile, taking his hand and holding it a second too long. It sent a shot of electricity down Brodyβs spine while also melting away his nerves.Β βAnd you must be Brody,β Kara quipped back before sitting down.
The conversation was surprisingly easy, both of them discovering they had so much in common. They had made it through an entire bottle of wine without even noticing, so wrapped up in each other. Brody completely forgot about Rachel and Jaime, and honestly, he didnβt even care if they were still there. Kara was the perfect distraction he needed to get over his best friend, and he had a feeling she could end up being someone he truly cared about.
The bill came after they were halfway through another bottle of wine, both of them giggly and heavily flirting without a care. The total was enough to sober Brody up, his heart sinking into his stomach.Β βI hate to ask but could we go fifty-fifty on this? Iβm way too broke to pay all of it.β Kara laughed as she snatched the paper from his hand, whipping out a shiny credit card before writing down a generous tip.Β βDonβt worry, Iβll cover it, but you better take me back to your place and pay me back.βΒ
That alone was enough to rush them out the door and get a taxi back to the loft. They made out in the back seat and if Brody was sober, heβd feel terrible for that action. It took them all of five minutes to get up the elevator and into the apartment before clothes started flying off. He was pretty sure he heard voices coming from the living room, but he ignored it as he pushed Kara into his room. Half an hour later, they were a tangled sweaty mess, both of them trying to catch their breath.Β
As they laid there, Brodyβs fingers tracing shapes on Karaβs arm, he thought about a future that didnβt involve Rachel in Karaβs spot. It was definitely still not possible in his brain and maybe that would never change, but it was starting to be a little clearer. For now, however, this would be a good way to pass the time.Β
βSo, same time tomorrow,β Brody asked as they started to drift off.
