Like, imagine Chris staying behind because he just fucking canât leave Mark, ok? He loves him too much, and this is exactly why theyâre not supposed to get involved romantically with colleagues, but he just needs to find him.Chris messing with his comp so their teammates think heâs dead too and leave cause he doesnât want them to risk their lives too.Chris finding Mark and tending to his wound and then passing out in exhaustion because he fucking spent hours looking for him in a goddamn storm and then operating and he needs to sleep for a year ok.Imagine Mark waking up in the HAB, and god heâs alive, and he doesnât get it at first but then he sees Chris and he just loses it, hates himself, yells at Chris because omg no, Chris wasnât supposed to die with him.Imagine all their issues with food. They know from day 1 that theyâre not gonna make it, thereâs no way the food is gonna last them enough. But then Mark is dead set against letting Chris die here, he knows he just has to cultivate, and Chris is sceptical at first, but they get the work done (a lot sooner than if it had been just Mark alone), and when the first plant sprouts Chris is the first to see it and heâs just so fucking happy and proud and in awe of Mark he just kisses him. And then freezes but doesnât really have time to panic because Mark just pulls him close and kisses him back.And I dunno how they make it work⌠maybe the airlock of the HAB never decompresses and they manage to grow enough for the two of them. Maybe Mark destroys the morphine one of the first days and Chris is beyond livid and they have a terrible fight and Mark ends up screaming at him that thereâs no way heâs going to let him kill himself so he can have enough food, because thatâs totally something Chris had given some thought to. Either they both make it out, or they both die here, together. And Chris yells and hits him and then ends up crying and clinging to him, because he doesnât have Markâs optimism but he just canât think about the possibility of Mark dying, so theyâll find a way.
Maybe they cry when Chris leaves to go after the Pathfinder, because You need to stay here and look after our crops, we need them, Mark. And Mark wants to argue but they canât both go, and heâs terrified during the whole time Chris is away, and so so fucking happy when he comes back that he canât stop kissing him, touching him, just feeling him for a whole day.And when the Hermes comes back for them itâs crazy and unreal and they canât believe it, but theyâre alive, both malnourished and weak but together, and theyâre going to make it back. Theyâll be ok.
But after logging for so long watney tends to just say out loud anything he thinks
âWow beckâs hair looks good today. Donât we use the same shampoo? How does he get it to look so good?â
âUh, MarkâŚâ
âAm I logging again?â
