‘ well, that’s never going to happen, ’ kaia says, attempting to replicate his same cadence. she pauses to take a sip from her own drink she ordered long before brooks started speaking, insisting on needing a straw to not ruin the ysl lipstick she applied before coming to the bar. the plastered grin on her face slowly becomes less forced as she shakes her head. ‘ i don’t speak such vulgarity. i’m a lady. ’ she explains, teeth sinking into her bottom lip to suppress a laugh. there’s not an ounce of truth behind her words & she’s not attempting to convince brooks otherwise. she’s lost count on the amount of times she’s told him to fuck off or to go fuck himself whenever he’s made advances. yet, tonight no such words have left her mouth. despite being separated by the bar top, she crosses her legs for added measure as if to prove one simple action can prove that she’s the lady she’s claiming to be. her thumb begins to trace mindless shapes over his tattoos, pretending to hang onto every word he says as if it’s the voice of god. she leans forward to take another sip from her drink, mentally telling herself she needs alcohol before responding to his comment. ‘ i was referring to that lovely concoction you made, but it’s too soon to be presumptuous about other things touching my lips tonight. ’ kaia can’t do as much as take a mental note & think of the last time she allowed herself to get this close to her without cursing him out, because she’s diverted her full attention to their foreign proximity. ‘ i hate letting you down, brooksy, ’ she coaxes, the nickname leaving her lips nearly making her gag. she leans in closer, allowing him to inhale the warm & spicy scent of tom ford’s soleli blanc she sprayed on the nape of her neck minutes before leaving her home earlier. ‘ i’ll tell you what. i’ll give you all of the control tonight. ’ kaia begins, her tone suggesting there’s a but to follow. & before she finishes her sentence, she uncrosses her legs & reaches forward to pull him closer to her by his belt loops. ‘ as long as you do something for me. ’

                “  so,  either  i  take  this  shot  and  risk  destroying  my  internal  organs,  or  you  pick  what  we  do  next  and  i  risk  possible  humiliation…  ”  has  it  ever  occurred  to  him  that  she  has  only  been  twenty-one  for  a  good  month?  probably  not  —  but  would  anyone  really  care?  “  you  drive  a  hard  bargain.  ”  with  a  sigh,  she  looked  down  at  it  and  grabbed  it,  the  smell  of  it  being  enough  to  burn  her  nostrils.  “  remind  me  to,  like,  never  leave  my  life  in  your  hands.  i  will  drink  this  shot,  if  and  only  if,  this  is  the  only  shot  —  no  more,  not  unless  you  wanna  pay  for  my  hospital  bill.  ”

“  i’ve  had  a  lot  worse  and  you  don’t  see  my  organs  failing  ,  do  you  ?  ”  eyebrow  arches  as  a  smirk  pulls  onto  his  features  .  “  but  why  would  i  ever  plan  something  for  us  to  do  with  the  intent  to  humiliate  you  ?  i  have  a  lot  of  kinks  ,  but  humiliation  isn’t  one  of  them  ,  alexandra  .  ”  fingers  pull  through  his  hair  ,  only  to  mess  it  up  once  it  falls  back  onto  his  forehead  .  “  and  if  i  don’t  mind  paying  for  your  hospital  bill  ?  ”  teases  .  he  takes  his  beer  bottle  back  into  his  hand  ,  sipping  it  before  placing  it  back  down  and  letting  his  eyes  focus  on  her  in  anticipation  for  her  to  down  the  shot  .  rolling  his  eyes  at  her  conditions  ,  he  sighs  ,  “  fine  .  no  more  shots  .  .  but  come  on  ,  stop  putting  it  off  .  three  .  .  two  .  .  ”  starts  counting  down  before  lifting  his  hand  to  gently  urge  the  glass  closer  to  her  lips  .

emmett could feel their heart drop to their ass the moment they laid eyes on him. there’s no fucking way this was happening. they think, eyes scanning the room around him for an exit sign, an escape route, anything to get them the fuck away from where they were standing.

it was supposed to be a summer of new beginnings — not the summer of “emmett has to come face to face with the person who ruined his life.” it was almost laughable, honestly. emmett spent so much time running from the past (his scandal, the breakup, everything) that here it is: standing tall in all its tatted glory right in front of him at the damn supermarket next to the fucking eggs.

they should’ve just said nothing. should’ve just grabbed what they needed and walked the other direction without saying anything. but it was emmett and for some reason he had to have the last word, despite knowing that they would cry when they got home just like the last time. there was water all over the floor.

“be careful. the floor is slippery.” they muttered, turning their back to the man before tightening the guitar strap that rests along his back. “wouldn’t want you to get hurt.” emmett says kindly. almost too kind to the point where it could be seen as taunting, and bitter. emmett lets out a small laugh, beginning to walk out of the store.

with  a  case  of  beer  in  one  hand  ,  his  other  hand  holds  his  phone  as  he  lingers  near  the  dairy  products  .  brooks  receives  the  confirmation  text  he  is  waiting  for  before  pocketing  the  iphone  ,  eyes  turning  back  to  look  up  and  as  he  does  so  ,  that  is  when  he  hears  the  familiar  voice  .  when  they  speak  up  again  ,  it  only  confirms  that  they  are  anything  but  sincere  .  causes  a  chuckle  to  fall  from  his  lips  as  eyes  finally  meet  theirs  .  “  oh  baby  ,  you  mean  you  wouldn’t  want  anyone  ,  or  in  this  case  anything  ,  to  hurt  me  .  .  that’s  your  job  isn’t  it  ?  ”  runs  his  tongue  along  his  lower  lip  as  eyes  glide  over  them  ,  taking  in  subtle  changes  since  the  last  time  they  had  seen  each  other  .  .  not  that  it  has  been  that  long  since  brooks  was  forced  to  see  their  face  on  his  social  media  feeds  . body  reacts  before  his  mind  can  process  what  he  is  doing  .  .  and  how  maybe  the  supermarket  isn’t  the  best  place  to  be  doing  it  .  hand  reaches  out  ,  cupping  their  shoulder  to  spin  them  back  around  as  he  steps  forward  .  “  that’s  it  ?  just  going  to  warn  me  of  the  slippery  floor  like  some  passive  aggressive  caution  sign  and  then  wander  off  ?  no  .  why  don’t  we  catch  up  ?  ”  holds  the  pack  of  beer  up  ,  smirking  ,  “  maybe  share  a  beer  .  come  on  .  .  i’ve  missed  you  ,  em  .  ”

      at last, their schedules aligned that alexis was finally able to come to one of brook’s shows. they had had the worst of luck when it came to actually meeting, that so much so, even tonight was a struggle to reach the venue, having to reschedule a brand deal and even an important dinner with friends in order to make this happen. of course, brooks was not at all aware of the lengths she had gone to and still, he wasn’t even expecting her to show up as that was how it always turned out, fate really had other plans when it came to the two of them finally meeting.       alexis kept herself hidden, staying far back at the venue throughout the whole show, singing along to all his songs because of course, she was a huge fucking fan of his and wasn’t afraid to admit it. when it was time to attempt to make it backstage, she had to coerce a few security guards, bat her eye lashes at a few staff members but finally, she was able to make her way through the barricades and make her way to find the man she had been speaking to over the phone for months. why was she this fucking nervous?        she tapped his shoulder, taking a breath before letting her eyes meet his as he turned around. “one of the security guards is convinced i’m giving him a blowie tonight, you might want to tell him i have other plans…” / @brksfm​
