Dragon's Dogma blog for both games; mostly will be silly little shitposts but maybe sometimes there will be more things and they'll be maybe kind of OK, we'll see how it goes
DD1 spoilers will be untagged
DD2 spoilers I'll try my best to put under "#dd2 spoilers"
if the brine has a million haters, i'm one of them
if the brine has ten haters, i'm one of them
if the brine has one hater, it's me
if the brine has no haters, that means i'm no longer on the earth
if the world is with the brine, then i'm against the world
Hello, welcome, this post is a lot of nothing right now especially for being pinned, but it'll probably get updated and edited (or just replaced) with more useful info as I maybe slowly do stuff. If this blog goes dead for long periods, it's fine, I'll still probably be around, just doing other stuff.
If you would like to hire my pawns, I play on PC and you can find them via the following ways.
Dragon's Dogma: Mint, with creator name of Wildrose now! Currently in low-mid (~50s) levels when playing. If you see a big lady with the right names attached, you probably found her!
Dragon's Dogma II: Mint (level 140+, Straightforward) is KGY0E67I95GC, Wildrose (level ~60s, Kindhearted) is OX5O4BB1KQSV
Important to note I try to dress my Arisen and pawns more for aesthetic depending on where I am in the game, but their weapons should always probably be good, and if they aren't it's probably because I'm up to something and it'll be fixed soon.

The shot went wide. The moment Epilear's finger twitched, compressed the trigger on his rifle, he could tell the shot went wide. The bullet whizzed past the raider he'd been aiming for — it was strange, because he was usually so good at this — and he found himself meeting focused grey eyes from across the battlefield.
The shot went wide.
He felt something in him stutter, a frisson of familiarity that bloomed and curled as if in flames. He never had much opportunity to speak to the older man, but he felt it all the same.
Maybe, in some ways, he'd been avoiding him. That sense of familiarity had always scared him, and now his bullet hurtled towards him — and he could swear the other man's lips parted, saying something.
What had he said?
Fuck you. Or maybe thank you? But that made no sense.
Not with this, a laser-misled oblivion-to-be.
He knew he'd killed him before his body hit the ground.
Now, Epilear had killed before. That was just what happened when you lived out here on a rimworld. Even when raiders weren't a constant threat that required permanent solutions, sometimes things simply got out of hand.
This wasn't even his first time gunning down a fellow colonist.
It was just the first time he felt that odd tickle of prescience, like the echo of a whisper murmuring: "I know you."
also I put intentionally not great (though still dragonforged) shock knives on DD2 Mint so hopefully if you hire her she's less inclined to rapidly explode enemies due to being 147

Was walking around Bakbattahl and noticed this mural depicting Rothias, the first Sovran (left), and a second figure (right). Considering they too are standing triumphant on top of a dragon, I assumed they must be Arisen too.
I had also collected some photos of the throne room's stain glass windows depicting the past Sovrans: a humanized Rothias, the 2nd Sovran (presumably the Arisen that Rothias said sealed him under the sea), the 3rd Sovran (the one from the Bakbattahl mural!), the 4th Sovran, and the 5th Sovran.
This makes us (or Darraugh/"Arthur"), the 6th Sovran in line.
Based on the dress of the 3rd Arisen and their appearance in Bakbattahl art, I can only assume Bakbattahl wanted to pay tribute to the Sovrans that originated from their land, so the rest are likely of Vermund origin.
The only other lore that I am aware of exists about past Sovrans is that with the underground library crypt, Waldhar says it was sealed by a Sovran "of generations past" that "in a bid to pass the throne on to his own descendants, this Sovran attempted to consign our kingdom's histories to oblivion" and that this "Sovran's line ultimately fell to ruin." Considering how forgotten this library is, I'd estimate maybe 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Sovran did that? 5th Sovran might be of too recent memory, because based on ambient NPC dialogue at the masquerade, it's been "decades" since they last had a true Sovran.
(This is speculation, but perhaps the beastren were run out of Vermund after blaming Mad Sovran for killing random people he thought were the Pathfinder, and thus the kingdom split in two? Perhaps the 2nd Sovran didn't help matters either.)
Interesting of note is each Sovran depiction hints at the types of vocations they might have favored.
Rothias - Greatsword (Warrior), Stave (Mage/Sorcerer), Duospear (Mystic Spearhand). The depiction of him over the throne appears to be have just a regular longsword, so Fighter too perhaps? Would make sense that Rothias would be an accomplished Arisen who mastered multiple vocations.
2nd Sovran - Stave (Mage/Sorceror); makes sense if they had the magick to seal away Rothias
3rd Sovran - Sword and Shield (Fighter) and Dagger (Thief)
4th Sovran - Stave (Mage/Sorcerer)
5th Sovran - Greatsword (Warrior)
I also had the thought - had any of these Sovran taken the Dragon's deal like Edmund did in Dark Arisen, which extends your life? Considering we aren't aware of any prolonged longevity past Rothias, they might have all successfully slain the Dragon and reclaimed their hearts. Rothias for sure did since he rose to Seneschal, and if the 2nd Sovran did indeed have the power to seal Rothias under the sea, I can only assume they were of strong enough will to be able to defeat their Dragon too. It is possible that perhaps any that took the Dragon's deal might have perished through other means (murder, accident, disease, etc.). While Ser Brant says Disa poisoned/cursed you and sent you away because an Arisen "can't be killed by mortal hands", I assume this to be meddling by the Pathfinder or a deeply believed superstition, and perhaps once an Arisen has claimed Sovranhood through a deal with the Dragon, Pathfinder stops caring about protecting their immortal ass lol.
Other miscellaneous depictions of Sovrans at the palace, and in the world:
Above the throne itself. Another human depiction of Rothias, along with (presumedly) kneeled pawns wielding weapons.
2. Rothias' statue as depicted in Battahl, with the head of the statue preserved and not knocked off to hide Rothias' true heritage like in Vermund.
3. On top of the Vermund palace. I can't fit this one to any one specific Sovran, so it might be a symbolic representation of one wearing the Stygian Omen armor because they're missing Rothias' beard. Considering Darraugh was wearing the armor, I assume it to be a flawed recreation based on the statues of Rothias' armor (considering the actual Sovran's Plate is a very similar but slightly different set).
4. Fountain of the 1st Sovran - a human Rothias wielding a duospear and wearing the Stygian Omen armor.
If any of you know any Sovran lore I'm missing, please let me know!
I don't have a lot, but we do actually know a tiny (and I mean minuscule) amount about the predecessor Sovran.
As well as the comment from the masquerade you noted, we have this from Brant's speech in the opening scene which also states it's been decades, as well as giving him a name (Erland). I'm fairly certain this is the only time in the whole game his name is mentioned, though maybe there is something that can be read that I've missed.
The other tiny scrap of information we have about him comes from Disa's character tab on the official site.
Erland was married to Disa! And that's about it.
I actually find it kind of odd we have no details about his death, especially given the belief that the Arisen can't die to mortal hands. Did he die to violence, or illness? Maybe possibly he could've died to his/the Dragon? We don't have clarity on the whole Sovran thing, but by the way things happen in the plot, it doesn't seem like it's necessary for them to slay the Dragon before they take the throne, just expected of them to attempt to do so during their rule.
Ah thank you for including this! You made me realize something different than I did before. I believed the website was incorrectly referring to Disa as the previous Sovran's husband, and that Erland was actually just a consul. Instead, I now believe Erland and Disa's husband to be separate characters, and Erland is indeed the 5th Sovran.
The cinematic you get when talking to Brant about your past refers to Disa's husband as a consul, rather than a Sovran, and that he literally just died before you became Arisen.
My guess is a social media manager was handling the English DD2 website and incorrectly translated something like "ruler" to be "Sovran".
Still, I would agree an explanation for Erland's death would have been nice, but it could have been just natural causes/age, since if Erland actually slew the Dragon he would have gotten his heart back and could age again.
While I only have a machine translation, I did check the text of her JP site tab, and she's referred to as his wife (or "his queen" or "his consort" on other ones) there too, though this presumes Sovran is just straight up King in the original text (calling her "wife/queen/consort of the former/previous king" across these is consistent though).
(Also tbh tragic they list their voice actors for the JP version on the JP site, but not the ones for the EN version on the EN site)
Her having been Erland's wife also makes it make sense why her title is Queen Regent instead of something else more minor.
That said, if you want to go even more feral like I have over specifically that whole situation, you can also add this dialogue I got from talking to random people in the noble quarter.
Apparently the consul has also been dead for years? Which throws the phrasing of Brant's other cutscene and the timeline more all over the place, because it doesn't seem like it's been all that long since that death, Melve, and the Arisen being memory wiped, taken to the excavation site, and then escaping.
