âOf course I want to be fixed and I was for a little while but now Iâm broken againâ Ever since Bren had broken her heart, she knew, she knew of only one person that could fix it and that was probably Devon. Sheâd had a lot of time to think while she was in the hospital and as much as she thought about Bren, her thoughts always came back to one guy. The only guy she had truly loved, Devon.Â
He was her yin to her yang, her light to her dark. When they were together nothing else mattered, she had thought she loved Bren but she was wrong. All this time it was him, never anyone else. âDoing what I want to do is the only thing I can do right now, I always used to do what other people wanted me to. Well, not anymore I am through with being other peoples doormatâ.Â
âMy brotherâs done enough for me. You all have, itâs about time I started looking after myselfâ. She sighed when he said heâd leave, truthfully she didnât want him to. She wanted him to hold her tight like he used to and tell her that sheâll always have him. âI donât think I want thatâ she said, tears starting to fill her eyes. So much for pretending to not careshe thought to herself. âI donât know what I want anymore. Iâm so scared, I donât know if I can bear it, I donât know what to doâ she said still trying to fight the tears.
Brenden sighed. "There's a difference between us just bossing you around and us telling you what we think is best for you," he said quietly, noticing the tears streaking down her cheeks. He sighed, reaching out across the gap between them to wipe them from the corner of her eyes. "It's okay," he said softly, pulling her into an embrace and feeling her body shake.
He embraced her tightly, not even able to try to imagine what she must be going through emotionally. "As I said, I'm here for you," he said quietly, stroking her hair as he tried to calm her down. "So is Penny. And Keith. And a handful of other people," he assured her. "You just have to trust us."
He let go for a moment, pulling away to look her in the eyes. "You're not alone, okay?" he repeated, wiping her hair away from her face and tiling her chin up to meet his eyes. "Let me know whatever I can do to help, and I will," he promised.
Yeah. This is my sister. And I love her. Most days.

She teared her eyes away from her books and saw him with all the items in his hands and a bag of food inbetween his teeth, she chuckled, she said a Hey back to him as he set down his books and the food on the desk, she looked at her Physics then turned her head and smiled lightly, closing her Physics book before stacking her books in a pile and her binders together, just leaving her Literature book out with her laptop.
âI donât know, you need to be pretty special to compete with Physics and Literature,â she said with a light, playful tone. She was glad Brenden came unexpectedly to hang out, with her about to leave and the hospital scare with Alyssa it caused everyone to basically be on edge, and Cleo knew Brenden didnât wanna lose a friend like Alyssa, and she knew how he felt if she were in the same situation.
She laughed a grin on her lips as he brought her burritos, she smirked and shook her head, âThanks, and I think the Burritos are the only good thing in that cafeteria.â She said, âI guess Iâll take a break from my work, since youâre here.â She said, as if she were exasperated with him but winked playfully as she walked around the couch and sat next to him.
âIâm eating. I havenât eaten in three days.â She said with a guilty small smile. âIâm really hungry.. With whatâs happened and schoolwork.â She said, âAnd lots of hot sauce.â She said a smile going back on her lips lightly, âI grew up in Texas baby, thatâs all we eat down there.â She said, chuckling as she took off her glasses, setting them on the coffee table.Â
Bren rolled his eyes when Cleo teased him back. It quickly changed when she admitted to not having eaten for three days. He tried to suppress his frown but he still felt his eyebrows pull together in concern. "Cleo..." he said quietly, moving the food onto the table beside the couch and gently scooping her into his arms, easily pulling her into his lap.
"I promised I wouldn't say anything about it," he said as he adjusted himself so she could comfortably lean back against him. He rested his chin on her shoulder and wrapped his arms around hers, entwining his fingers in hers and letting the food go momentarily forgotten. "But, if you have anything to talk about, you know you can tell me, right?" he asked her, taking a moment to kiss the side of her head. Despite everything that had been happening with Alyssa, Brenden was still concerned with Cleo's safety and welfare.Â
He didn't want to let the food get cold but he cared about Cleo way too much to let that stop him. Resting his forehead on the back of her head, he sighed. "I'm sure you're sick of apologies by now, but I really am sorry that everything happened this way," he said, voice a bit shaky. "I didn't know--and I didn't mean to--and now..." he sighed, closing his eyes and pressing his lips together to stop him from rambling on.
Homework Distractions. || Breo.
Cleo stuck herself in her dorm all day and night doing homework. Her classes being all advanced classes they gave her alot of assignments. She hasnât spoken to anyone, and she wanted to speak to Brenden and hang out with him but she knew he needed to speak to Alyssa and she was being stressed with all of her work. She was gnawing on her pencil as she was staring at a math equation in her textbook, she groaned and after about twenty minutes she solved the problem and sighed in relief.
After finishing all her Math and Physics she leaned back on her chair and sighed, relieved. She looked at like a dork, she had on some black shorts with a simple red tank-top and her hair piled on top of her head in a messy bun, with no make-up on her her glasses, she was in total dork mode. She was about to start her Literature report when she heard a knock on her door, âCome in, itâs opened!â she called out, not knowing who it was.
Bren kicked the door open lightly with his foot, a stack of books in one hand, a tray of drinks in the other, and a paper bag clenched between his teeth. He mumbled a hello to Cleo before finding a clear spot on her desk to put down his books, the drinks, and then finally the bag of food. Smiling, he leaned down, putting his face next to hers and looked at what she was studying.
"Ooh. Physics," he said, feigning interest. "How will I ever compete with that?" Despite how terrible and chaotic the week had been, seeing Cleo had considerably lightened his mood and he even felt himself smile a bit as he leaned down to kiss her on the top of her head.
"I brought food," he announced, dropping himself down on her couch and opening up the brown paper bag. "Unfortunately, it's just cafeteria food," he said with a shrug, "but fortunately there's a lot of it." He dug into the bag. "Hope you like burritos," he said with a mischievous grin. "Everyone likes burritos." After that he took out a tray of nachos and a handful of napkins.
He waited for her to join him, noting how weary and tired her face looked. He understood why, he felt it too, but, for one day this week he wanted to try and carry on like something good had come out of everything that happened. Because, something did. "Hot sauce or no hot sauce?" he asked with a smile. "To my word, I won't force you to eat, though I'll highly suggest it," he said, wiggling his eyebrows and giving her a hopeful look.

âOf course Iâm not going to do it again, Iâm just saying I couldâ she said, rolling her eyes. She wondered if he could tell her not caring attitude was all fake, she wondered if he could see how much she actually did still care but she just didnât want to show it and she wondered if he could see how hurt she was by everything.Â
âI know everyone cares, the problem is I donât, not anymore. Iâm through with caring. Every time I start to care about something or someone it falls apart. So like I said I really couldnât care less about anything or anyone anymore.â Alyssa swallowed the lump forming in her throat. âIâm not in a bubble, I know people care. So thatâs not the bubble Iâm in.â His words had hit her hard but she wasnât going to show him that, she wasnât going to let him know that heâd gotten to her.Â
âCanât you see Bren, Iâm broken, Iâm broken and I canât be fixedâ. She felt like she was right about that one, she did feel broken and unfixable. At least the voices had stopped, for now anyway. It was only a matter of time before they came back to haunt her.Â
Bren sighed, casting his look down at his shoes. "You're broken and can't be fixed or won't let yourself get fixed?" he asked, his tone even and low. "I'm just saying, ultimately it's all your choice. No matter how much I ask or Penny watches you, you're going to do what you want to do. As evident tonight," he said, picking up his hand and waving it in her general direction.
He shifted from one foot to the other, switching his gaze to the ceiling. "Maybe having your brother here will help some," he said with a shrug. "Maybe not. But, it's up to you."
He looked at her expectantly, waiting for her response. "I can just leave if you want," he said, hands shoved in his pockets again. "I can pretend I didn't see you here and just let you go." He paused, not liking the idea but knowing that forcing her one way or another wouldn't solve anything. "Just say the word and I'll pass by and that'll be the end of it." He held his breath, waiting.
No lie. This is my throwback. This was my favorite thing to watch on VHS as a kid and hearing that first note... holy shit. I still pretend to have a clue of what the guy is singing. Do you remember watching this all of the time, Kat? Haha. Wow. Memories.

I understand...I really do think we should try and be able to, at the very least, tolerate each other. Just for Lyss. She still cares about you.
I can do that. Just...don't assume you know what's going on with me and I'll return the favor.
By the way, did you know she snuck out of the hospital?
Um, Bren, I just wanted to apologize for yesterday...I'm just going a little insane lately. There's a lot I'm juggling at the moment and I got mad...
-sigh- I understand, Penny. We're all quick to temper right now, it's understandable. I didn't mean to be such an ass. It's just a... a very stressful time right now.

âIâm not going back, I was in a better place and they just went and dragged me straight back to hellâ she said, her anger rising. âItâs not like they said I had to stay anyway, they just said they wanted me to stayâ She wasnât going back to the hospital, she couldnât. She hated hospitals âYou know, theyâre getting Penny to look after my pills because theyâre scared Iâm going to try again. Please, there are plenty of other waysâ she laughed, venom evident in  her voice.Â
âItâs fine Bren, Iâm not your problem any more. Youâve done enough donât you think?â she said and she meant it, he had done enough for her. She knew he cared about her but she didnât want him to bother anymore, he had Cleo to worry about now. Every minute she spent talking to him, the harder it got to hide her emotions and let go.Â
Bren groaned, bringing his hands to his face. "You're being ridiculous, you know that?" he asked, his voice exasperated. "You're just making things worse for yourself. Forget me, forget Cleo. You're forgetting that there are other people that care about you. If you think this is a first time stunt and are planning on trying again, you're going to hurt those people all over again."
His hands dropped to his sides, fists clenched in frustration. "I care about you. That hasn't changed. But, I'll tell you the same thing that I tell Katie: I can only stop you from destroying yourself before I think that it's what you really want." He paused, letting his words sink in. "If that is really what you truly want, then go ahead. Try again. If you think that'll make things better for you, go for it. But realize how it effects everyone else. If you think you'll go without us noticing, you're wrong."
His voice had risen and he just realized it then. Letting out a deep breath, he let his shoulders slump. "I can't tell you what to do about yourself," he said with a sigh, "but I can pop the bubble you're in thinking that no one cars. You better damn well know people care. If you learned anything from all of this, that's what you should've learned."

Yeah, I think my brain has some sort of trigger, I hear the word âHistoryâ and Iâm gone.
Iâm loving it though it a bit boring at times, but what school isnât?
Too true, too true.
Nice to out-of-class meet you too. And you donât need to apologize, when Iâm in history I mostly ignore everything around me.
That's me in every class. Bell rings, class starts, bye Bren's brain.
How're you enjoying senior year so far?
Good morning, Elora. This might be the first time I saw you out and about and not just in the front of my history class.
Sorry for never really introducing myself. Brenden Monroe, nice to out-of-class meet you.
Surprise, surprise // Brelyssa
Alyssa didnât look up until she heard his voice. Of all the people she could bump into and it just had to be him. âFucking greatâ she mumbled. Her eyes went hard and she smiled the fakest smile she could âHi Bren, what a surprise. Youâre out and about earlyâ she said keeping that fake smile on her face. âWhatâs the matter Bren? You look like youâve seen a ghostâ she laughed at the frozen expression on his face.
âI was originally meant to be getting out today but they decided to keep me in another night. So I thought Iâd take it in my own hands and make my great escapeâ Â she said, checking her nails out, like none of this bothered her. The truth was it did and she was just about ready to break down but she wasnât going to, she was going to at least try and keep this hard, cold hearted act up. She was going to pretend she didnât feel anything and that her emotions had disappeared.Â
Brenden sighed, knowing that this was already a losing battle for him. "Alyssa," he said with a sigh. He ran his hand through his hair, a frustrated expression taking over his features. "If they wanted you to stay, you should have stayed," he said quietly, keeping his voice low as to not wake the entire girl's floor. "They're trained professionals with degrees--their advice is given to keep you safe."
He shifted uncomfortably from one foot to the other. "Come on, I can bring you back," he said, nodding toward the dorm exit. "I can get Katie's keys, drive you in her car back to the hospital. If they wanted to keep you through today, they must have their reasons," he explained in a calm voice. He knew she wouldn't go for it but wished she wouldn't be so stubborn. Acting out more like this was only going to make things worse.
Surprise, surprise // Brelyssa
Alyssa looked around and made sure there were no nurses in the corridors. She was meant to be getting out today but the nurses wanted her to stay another night, so she decided to take matters into her own hands and sneak out. She hailed out a cab and got in, asking them to take her back to St Marys. The first thing she wanted to do was get to her dorm without being seen but that was short lived, when someone bumped into her. âUmmm, surpriseâ she said, looking down at the ground.
Brenden, having just left his sister's dorm for advice, wasn't paying attention when he felt a body run into him. "S-sorry," he mumbled before taking a step back. "...Lyss?" He froze where he was, an odd surprised expression frozen on his face as he faced Alyssa for the first time since Miranda's party.
Suspiciously, he crossed his arms over his chest and raised an eyebrow. "From what I've heard, you're still due to stay in the hospital so they can make sure everything checks out," he said slowly, confused. "What's going on...?"

Everything that's currently happening.. Is just horrible.
I know Bren. You care about her, so do I. But I know you, of course are much closer to her.. And just, as much as you donât want to, calm down.. Please.
I believe you, I know we will.
I'll try. Okay? For you.
I just...get riled up. Defensive. Even if I shouldn't have to be.
Bren, I need to talk to you.
Seriously? I didnât accuse you of starting the fight! I seriously hope you keel over dead.
I didn't even say anything.
Hah, that truce lasted long.
