   A recent study from the University of Edinburgh ɛdɪnbərə, revealed that people who consume a large amount of cannabis, are most likely to have bone fracture because of reduced bone mineral density.

Researcher surveyed on sample size of 284 people, among them 170 were active pot smoker.

Those 170 cannabis users were further sub divided as heavy users and moderate user on the basis of their total estimated consumption. (Heavy user = more than 47000 times, moderate user= at least 1000 times). Each participant was asked to undergo a specialized x-ray technique called a DEXA scan to measure their bone density. As a result of this study, heavy smokers were found to have 5% lower bone density than non-users and moderate users.

1.    Heavy pot smokers are at greater risk of developing osteoporosis later on their life.

 Osteoporosis a medical condition in which the bones become brittle and fragile from loss of tissue

2.       Researchers found, heavy cannabis use, leads to lower body weight and Body-Mass Index (BMI).

 Other long term effects are-

Patients with panic anxiety are likely to experience increased anxiety from marijuana.

Cannabis users experience short-term memory problems.

Cannabis users experience a loss of motivation.

What is a cigarette?

Cigarette is a thin cylinder of finely cut tobacco, rolled in paper for smoking.

Cigarette contains approximately 600 ingredients. When burned, they create more than 7,000 chemicals. And 69, among them are known to be a cause of a Cancer.

Smoking is helpful in medication of diseases, and some of them are-

1.       Ulcerative colitis

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a long-term serious bowel disease that results in inflammation, ulcers and permanent damage of the colon and rectum.

      Smoking for a greater number of years reduces the risk of Parkinson’s disease.

But smoking a larger number of cigarettes per day may not reduce the risk.

3.       Uterine fibroid and Endometrial cancer

Studies have consistently reported that active cigarette smoking is inversely associated with developing cancer of the endometrium in women who have reached menopause.

 4.       hypertension in pregnancy

Smoking is the only environmental exposure known to consistently reduce the risk of preeclampsia and gestational hypertension.

 5.       Cognitive performance

A meta-analysis of research into the effects of nicotine and smoking on human performance found positive effects.
