Dear Mom.. the amount of Panphobia on Insta is starting to get to me. People who are panphobic keep claiming that pansexuality is transphobic, and I'm starting to worry. What if I'm being transphobic unintentionally? I don't wanna hurt anyone since I do view Trans men and women as REAL men and women. It also hurts when my own sister called me out on it.. what do I do?
My dear lgbt+ kid,Â
I got a few messages similar to yours lately - I hope harassing people who identify as pan is not becoming some kind of cruel online trend (like harassing asexual people sadly did). It feels like some people just randomly choose identities to mock and get angry at.Â
I donât see any reason why identifying as pan would make you transphobic. It simply means youâre attracted to people of all genders/regardless of gender - even if I try really hard to âthink around the cornerâ, I canât see how that could be interpreted as problematic. Â
There is a misunderstanding about pansexuality and trans people that I have encountered before. Maybe this is what they had in mind:Â
Some people think that the difference between pan and other identities is that pan people are attracted to trans people and everyone else is not. Thatâs not true. There are straight, gay, bi⌠people who are in very happy relationships with a trans partner.Â
If we (wrongly!) define pansexuality as âattracted to trans peopleâ, then I could see how people might think itâs an offensive term - it would invalidate other peopleâs attraction (and maybe even imply that attraction to trans people is ârareâ). It could also been seen as a âfetishâ for trans people rather than a real identity.
But that would be based on a false definition of pansexuality. If thatâs what they base their panphobia on, it only shows they misunderstand what pan means - not that you did anything wrong.Â
With all my love,Â
Your Tumblr MomÂ
PS: With all this being said: If a trans person tells you youâre transphobic, itâs always a good idea to listen. Identifying as pan in itself is not transphobic - but of course a pan person could still (even accidentally) say or do something else thatâs hurtful. Â
gay ppl who inject the concept of homophobia into the social structures of their magical fantasy worlds bc they want to use their own work as an outlet to talk and vent a little about their personal experiences:
straight ppl who inject the concept of homophobia into the social structures of their magical fantasy worlds bc the concept of gay ppl being happy and accepted is too âunrealisticâ and they have absolutely nothing to actually say about the issue and just included it for the sake of watching us suffer:Â
a reason why i love rats is because of how goofy they look. i know a lot of people associate rodents with disease and uncleanliness and thatâs why they fear them but i just cannot be scared of an animal that looks like this
my now ex friends have switched from completely ignoring me, to making snarky comments about me to teachers. feels fucking great.

It can be really frustrating and upsetting as an autistic person, to be constantly misunderstood and talked down to. I donât want to think in a manner thatâs more neurotypical though. I just want the neurotypicals to take the tiny bit of time needed to consider what it is that Iâm saying. To use their privilege to try to understand me, instead of expecting me to do the work.
