it is impossible to watch a movie. every night i think i want to watch a movie. no movie gets watched. because it's not possible
Strange racists and homophobes on the internet seem to have access to an alternate way cooler version of TV than me. "every white character on TV is in an interracial relationship" "every show has a gay couple in it" "main characters keep having to secretly be bisexual and nonbinary" "every show has gratuitous full frontal nudity" like damn promise?? What channel???
as a black gay person real like where y'all be finding this stuff pass the name
for real though, those DO NOT WATCH OR YOU'LL CORRUPT YOUR CHILDREN lists put out by conservative christian family groups is where I find all the stellar tv shows. Like, shit I didn't know half of those existed, thanks for finding them for me, gonna go watch 30 hours of gay tv now!
I think I know how this works.
For personal context, before I went to the '98 Burning Man festival, one of the things I'd read from a couple different journalists was that "everybody" runs around naked. Which, fine by me, I'd already spent a lot of time in clothing-optional spaces, I'm not fanatic about it but it's nice.
So I got there early and set up a public shade structure on one of Black Rock City's main roads and spent most of each afternoon just watching the crowds go by. I don't remember seeing more than one actually naked person the whole week. I think a topless woman passed by my intersection maybe every half an hour, sometimes once an hour. So why in the hell were people, normally pretty smart and observant writers, coming away with the impression that everybody was naked?
Then I remembered an unrelated passage from Joel Garreau's great book about the history of the outer-ring suburbs, Edge City. Mall developers told him flat-out that they tried to keep the crowds in their malls less than 5% black. Not because they themselves were racist, but because they had determined, experimentally, that if more than 5% of the people in the mall are black, the median white shopper will wrongly describe the mall as at least half black, as mostly black. And not a few of them would describe it, at 6% black, as a mall where "only black people go." Why?
Because, emotionally, they were still upset over the last one when the next one came into view.
Same as the journalists describing Black Rock City as all naked. Same as the right-wing religious culture warriors describing television as entirely mixed-race and gender non-conforming. Not because it's even vaguely true, we know that, but because they haven't gotten over their discomfort over the last one by the time the next one comes along. The anger, not the stimulus, is the part that's continuous, so their mind lies to them that it's "all" the thing they can't get over.
Similar effect for the presence/proportion of women in things, by the way: https://health.howstuffworks.com/mental-health/human-nature/perception/how-17-equals-496-the-amazing-multiplying-women.htm
Whatâs the solution then? Or if thereâs no solution, should we make things even queerer and more diverse?
That's literally the solution. Stop giving fuckheads concerned with what the white cis het median control of anything, and you'd be able to make some very broad changes.
fuckheads can get over it or they can die. that's the solution
Iâm so proud of people living with chronic health conditions. That shit is HARD. Idk who needs to hear this, but if no one else has said it: Iâm proud of you. Youâre sticking it out through so much pain and grief. Thatâs no small feat.
Every small thing you do for yourself health adds up. The grief is heavy and it comes from a place of love. The grief knows the pain is wronging you.
Iâm proud of you. I hope on the good days you can be proud of yourself.
Keep going.
if you build âcommunityâ around hating other people, just know that the second you step out of lineâregardless of your moral uprightness or the hypocrisy on their partâyouâre the next person theyâre going to tear to pieces.

I am so glad that I live in a world with trans women and trans men and nonbinary people and intersex people. Things are hard for all of us right now, but I love you all and I am wishing that things get better and easier for all of us! â¤ď¸
damn it really sucks how much the world wants disabled people dead. everyone gets soooo excited about medical advancements until it works and disabled people actually get to live and keep wanting to be alive despite not making money. i wish peoppe like, gave a shit about this.
being a kid and hearing adults say stuff like "woah 2011 was 4 years ago haha" didn't really convey the fucking horror of a youtube video crossing my recommended labelled "9 years ago" and it's from 2017. that's not true. 9 years ago is 2010 or something. don't lie.
itâs been ten years

Apart from the broad stigmatization and hostility toward people w NPD, can I voice something that really bothers me about r/raisedbynarcissists and other "narc abuse" spaces? The way that if someone brings up concerns about symptoms of NPD in themselves, everyone goes "nooo you're not a narc, you're a GOOD person who picked up some of their evil behavior because of your trauma you have fleas" and it's like I hate to break it to you, but cluster b disorders run in families for a reason. Also where do you think the disprder comes from...? Trauma.
So many people who hate people w NPD have NPD.
Also this isn't unique to NPD. It's not even unique to cluster b disorders or any/all personality disorders. Get traumatized by abuse and I promise you have adopted some toxic and dysfunctional behaviors, whether or not it meets the criteria of a disorder. If you brush it off as "fleas," you're not really being honest with yourself or other trauma victims.
To me it's an obvious continuation of the same lack of self-awareness and accountability that they say they hate people w NPD for displaying. And I'm gonna be blunt here but the need to feel like YOUR trauma was unique, special, different from the abuse other people have suffered is like. In fact. Narcissism (not necessarily as a disorder but as a trait at least).
Ask me how I know (I used to be Like That before realizing it was a garbage way to talk about / treat other mentally ill folks and I have ASPD lol).
Anyway antisocial đ¤ narcissist solidarity forever, I care about you and recognize the effort you put into breaking the cycle. A disorder doesn't negate that.
it's ironic that ableds love using disabled people for inspiration porn but hate actually giving the vast majority of disabled people the tools and accommodation to facilitate disabled people doing more with their time. it's almost like the point of it isn't to inspire but to create a false narrative that disability can be overcome with strength of will because look at these people who did it! now stop asking for help
People need to understand that the point ISNâT âbeing single is not a failure if youâre aromanticâ, the point is being single is not a failure full stop.
You can be allo and be single; itâs allowed. You feeling attraction doesnât mean your priority NEEDS to be finding romance (it can be! But it also can not).
Being single should be normalized no matter what your romantic/sexual orientation is. It isnât a tragedy.
this pride month weâre all going to be radically pro transgender. or else.
hey so this means radically pro ALL transgender. donât put limitations on this. all trans people are radically accepted here.

When the average heterosexual family man complains about his family not respecting him, it is almost always because there is absolutely nothing about him to respect and he has made no effort to connect with any of them and he considers the slightest pushback or lack of affection a sign of âdisrespectâ. When the average heterosexual family woman complains about her family not respecting her, itâs usually because her 14 year old son keeps calling her a bitch and throwing things at her while her husband laughs. The difference is so fucking stark.
Itâs because respect has multiple meanings.
thereâs this term i coined in my friendgroup i call âthe charizard effectâ and it can apply to anything and everything, but it was born from me explaining my feelings about the pokemon charizard. the term is basically about how overexposure to something be it by corporate shilling or fandom prominence drives me away from really enjoying something bc iâm exposed to it so much against my will i become tired of it. it came to me bc i was ranting about how tpci does not, and cannot stop reinventing charizard, and how it is popular and obtusely included in almost every region, merch, etc in every way possible and itâs highly commodified.
i dont dislike the pokemon charizard, in fact i really like its X form, but i am exposed to so much charizard in my pokemon consumption that i cant be bothered to care for it in any more than in passing. this applies to a bunch of other stuff iâd otherwise be ok with, but i always just call this aversion phenomena âthe charizard effectâ
making this term has done numbers for me being able to concisely express how i feel abt something. like. its not charizardâs fault i feel this way, im sure iâd feel normal abt it if it was stripped of all this over commodification, but i cannot. hence the name
