I just felt someone Z-target me
[clearly circle-strafing you] don't be ridiculous
learning about soccer has made me realize how much of a blood sport hockey is. watching a match like "when do they start punching and then get benched for two minutes before they get out there and do the exact same thing again"
Doc, what are the top five items food banks LOVE to receive? I'm doing a collection soon and want to ask for specifics.
MONEY. WE WANT MONEY. MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY. WE CAN DO SO MUCH WITH IT. WE HAVE ACCESS TO DEALS YOU COULD NEVER. MONEY
That aside.
I’m only going to talk about food items but if your food bank takes personal items, a lot of times diapers, feminine hygiene products, etc, are very very welcome.
1) Canned chicken and beef
looooooove this stuff. It’s expensive, it lasts forever, it tastes good and it can be used a variety of ways. This stuff is fucking catnip to food banks, it’s so hard for us to provide proteins.
2) Fancy nut butters
Peanut butter is a standby for food banks as a shelf-stable inexpensive protein, but if we have a family with a kid with a peanut allergy that’s not going to work. Non-peanut butters are expensive and it’s something we hardly ever see donated. (we also like peanut butter, but that’s easier for us to buy ourselves than non-peanut butters)
3) Canned or packaged tuna
You may notice a trend here in shelf-stable proteins. And yeah. That’s basically it, so I’m not going to keep harping on it. But this stuff is a godsend.
4) Easy breakfast things for kids (Granola bars, instant oatmeal, and the like)
Whatever Donald Trump tells you, most people who get food from food banks are actually working their asses off and so they have to leave Obama to raise their baby or whatever, and they don’t have a lot of time in the morning. Things like this that kids can make for themselves are expensive. (Another trend you may be noticing–donate shit that costs a lot of money. That helps us more than all the shitty green bean cans in the world) But they are so helpful for busy working families where the parents may not have a set schedule and sometimes little Amanda is making her own breakfast before she runs off to school. Don’t let kids go to school hungry.
5) Shelf-stable juice
This is one people never think of! But if you show up with a bunch of (preferably reduced sugar stuff) bottles of juice at my door, oh man, you are gonna get so many check mark and okay hand emoticons. This stuff is great for kids, and it doesn’t require refrigeration until it’s opened, so it works great for food drives.
But seriously, give money
And it’s way better food, too, anything you get prepackaged has A TON of sugar and/or salt in it…collecting cans may be more exciting than writing a check, but if the point is to help people, the check is going to get a lot more done
Yoooooo heads up for those of you with kids, I know this time of year schools start holding canned food drives so keep this in mind if you’re able to give.
collecting cans may be more exciting than writing a check, but if the point is to help people, the check is going to get a lot more done .
hint: the point should be to help people.
Also, please consider setting this as a scheduled post for June/July. A lot of food insecure families with children rely on school lunch to make ends meet, and that’s obviously not an option during summer vacation. Lots of people give during November and December, but summer is a lean time for food banks. Which is a shame, cuz fresh produce is at a boom during that time of year, so not only would summer donations boost how many people the food banks can help, it would boost the quality of the help they provide.
I keep saying there are literally millions of good reasons to wear a respie in public, and people keep ignoring me.
Can unfortunately confirm this is 100% real. Sources and more info below.
EFF's Threat Lab used static code analysis to confirm Meta deployed facial recognition to millions of Ray-Ban smart glasses. The "Name Tag"
TL;DR: On June 4, 2026, the Electronic Frontier Foundation published “Move Fast, Surveil Things,” confirming through static code analysis that Meta has already deployed facial recognition code to millions of Ray-Ban smart glasses. The internal “Name Tag” feature converts every face in view into a 2,048-number faceprint array and matches it against a stored database. An EFF researcher activated the feature in debug mode and watched the glasses detect a known face in real time. Meta’s spokesperson says this is just “evidence of exploration.” Exploration doesn’t ship to millions of devices. This is staging for launch, and internal documents show Meta planned to flip the switch while privacy groups were too busy to fight back. ...You don’t need a central database when every user builds their own local faceprint collection. The faces still get scanned. The biometric data still gets created. Meta just outsources the storage to your phone, and the legal liability to you.
-via State of Surveillance, June 7, 2026. Emphasis mine.
But good news! There are things you can do to protect yourself and your community. As quoted from the article:
What You Can Do
Assume You’re Being Scanned
If someone near you is wearing Ray-Ban Meta glasses, treat it like a running camera, because it is. The small LED indicator that’s supposed to signal recording can be covered with tape, and Meta’s “always enabled” mode processes video without activating it [6]. The Nearby Glasses app can detect Meta Ray-Bans via Bluetooth.
Lock Down Your Meta Profiles
Name Tag matches faces against Meta platform data. If you have Facebook or Instagram accounts, set your profile photo to something that isn’t your face. Make your accounts private. Better yet, consider whether you need them at all. Every photo of your face on Meta’s platforms is training data for identifying you later.
Support the Legal Pushback
The EFF, ACLU, and EPIC are fighting this on legal, legislative, and technical fronts. Texas’s investigation proves state-level enforcement works: Meta paid $1.4 billion last time Texas came knocking over biometrics. Push for biometric privacy laws in your state. Illinois and Texas showed the way.
Don’t Buy the Glasses
Every pair sold expands the surveillance network. Meta has shipped millions already. Each one is a camera pointed at everyone else. If you own a pair, understand that the facial recognition code is on your device right now, and Meta can activate it with a software update whenever they decide the political moment is right.
-via State of Surveillance, June 7, 2026. Emphasis mine. And remember that for an undocumented person in the US right now, facial recognition spyware identifying them could be the difference between life and death.
Just days after a damning WIRED report exposed that Meta had quietly embedded facial recognition technology (FRT) code into millions of phon
Hey good news they're already quietly removed the code!!!!
Public outcry matters!!!
But still don't buy the glasses, they can add the code back in by pushing an invisible update whenever they please

I’m just thinking about the time between chapters 20 and 21. The wait for the power of flight to recharge must’ve been agonizing for Pit. Did he have to wait a full day to go save Palutena? Can he be back in the air in a matter of hours? He kicks through the door at the start of 21. That must’ve been the longest wait of his life.

he Receipts: Every Way Trump Has Hurt Black People in His Second Term
Blogged by poligirlsayswhat
The Trump second term impact on Black Americans is no longer theoretical. From rising Black unemployment and DEI rollbacks to voting restrictions, HBCU funding cuts, and attacks on the Smithsonian, the first sixteen months of Trump’s second term have produced measurable consequences across Black America.
The Numbers Do Not Lie Black unemployment hit 7.6 percent in the first quarter of 2026. That is 1.2 percentage points higher than where it sat in the first quarter of Trump’s second term. The Black men employment to population ratio dropped 1.7 percentage points from 60.5 to 58.8 in a single year, with non college graduates driving the decline. Nearly 300,000 Black women left the labor force in the second quarter of 2025 alone, according to reporting cited by the Center for American Progress. Black women who were college graduates and public sector workers got hit first and hardest, because that is exactly where Trump’s federal workforce purges landed.
The Joint Center’s State of the Dream 2026 report does not mince words. It describes Trump’s policies, from DOGE to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, as actively pushing Black workers backward and setting Black households further behind. That report dropped in January. The numbers have only gotten worse since.
The DEI Demolition The Trump second term impact on Black Americans started on day one. On January 20, 2025, his first day back in office, Trump signed the executive order “Ending Radical And Wasteful Government DEI Programs And Preferencing.” It eliminated DEI programs, offices, and staff across the federal government and extended the ban to federal contractors. Within months, he expanded the order to target DEI in artificial intelligence development and the United States military.
On March 26, 2026, he signed “Addressing DEI Discrimination by Federal Contractors,” which the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation describes as a measure that “does not protect against discrimination but instead reinstitutionalizes it.”

Rocky + Movement Project Hail Mary (2026) dir. Phil Lord, Chris Miller
I think, of everything that happened over the course of Project Hail Mary, the lab explosion is what haunts Stratt the most.
Rereading the scene where they talk to Redell in the Auckland prison, Stratt shows such distain for Redell and how his negligence killed 7 people. She doesn’t let him make excuses and try and worm his way out of it. To her, he as the leader of the project has a responsibility toward those people and he failed, and in doing so killed them.
Every other action she takes has purpose. Every death that may be caused by those actions is counterbalanced by thousands of lives it saves. She can live with those decisions, because she knows they had to be made.
The lab explosion never should have happened. It was a mistake on the part of the quartermaster, but if there were additional safety protocols in place, it is a mistake that likely could have been prevented. I don’t think there’s any way that Stratt feels anything other than personally responsible for it.
She was negligent in her duty to ensure the safety of everyone working under her and the project itself, and because of that 14 people died. 14 people who did not need to die, whose deaths did nothing to save humanity.
Not only that, but the events catalysed the need to send the one person she’d let get closer to her to his death.
Of all the crimes she committed in during the project, I think that’s the one she feels like she truly deserves to be imprisoned for.
