We all know that before he was the Conductor, Ringo was a Beatle.

But, before he was a Beatle, Ringo (barely) grew up in the school of hard knocks.

Here's one detail that makes pics like the above tug on the heartstrings even just a little bit more:

"In an effort to secure himself some warm clothes, [Ringo Starr] briefly held a railway worker's job with British Rail, which came with an employer-issued suit. He was supplied with a hat but no uniform and, unable to pass the physical examination, he was laid off and granted unemployment benefits."
