Because for a story that is very black and white with morality (therein lies its charm of course) it’s so interesting to see a creature who is supposed to be livid, despicable evil, show such sweet and earnest affection for the wolves. He clearly has some connection to all sorts of beings such as the wolves.

I can never get that quote out of my head though. Why is he so transfixed by the howling? Why is he so moved and emphatic about it? Why does he have such tender feelings for the wolves? Is a creature of evil capable of such feelings? Can evil feel affection as long as it’s for other evil beings ?

Also the fact that Dracula/Vampires became associated with predominantly bats when in Dracula his animal equal is clearly supposed to be the wolf. The ferocious creature that roams the forests that all the locals fear, that he has dominion over.
