i stopped giving a shit about "legit" purchases of digital products after i spent $80 on the entire Dark Horse collection of Trigun/Trigun Maximum ebook mangas, learning that I only got access to reading them through a proprietary website ereader function, couldn't download them, and couldn't get a refund, and then literally only a year later, getting an e-mail stating that Dark Horse was shutting down that part of their company and I wouldn't even be able to read them anymore. Fuck that
Amazing moments in Dads: my friendâs dadâs critique of Frankenstein was, âI just donât think the author had read science fiction before.â

Is there any popular occult movement from the 19th century that Blavatsky DIDN'T have an influence on?
Electro therapy?
I'm not even joking the answer is probably no.
There's lots of problems with USA public education but also a lot of you were just drawing Naruto characters kissing while your history teacher tried to tell you about the Scramble for Africa
They should make an anime about major history events actually. That way people could still ship the characters and be forced into accidentally learning things

Hello! I have a bit of a linguistics question: do you know the origin of the concept of "lifting/parting the Veil between life and death/worlds," specifically using the word Veil? I remember it coming from seances during the craze in the Victorian era, but I cannot find any sources for this, so idk I might just be misremembering.
Context: I'm considering using the concept in a project and I'm trying to avoid anachronisms as best I can.
Like most things in the Victorian era it was popularized by Blavatsky. I don't know where the term originated, but the idea of a hidden reality only perceptible by those with special mystical knowledge is ancient. Plotinus talks about seeing special noetic reality in the Enneads all the way back in the 3rd century.
Actually you could probably argue "The Veil" is present in Parmenides.
The Hesperides drawing back their veils here is a poetic image pertaining to the nature of knowledge. That the Gods reward wisdom with peek into the true transcendant reality.
its actually easy to de-enshittify your digital experience all you need to do is install this browser extension and this browser extension and this browser extension and input this custom script into the advanced box and go into your system settings and reconfigure all these options you didnt know existed and change your entire workflow and switch to this alternative operating system and this alternative web browser and this alternative chat client and this alternative word processor and this alternative- sorry that one turned out to be malware delete that one okay now double check your task manager for unwanted background processes and element block these ads and invest in a good VPN and append all your searches with AI blocking keywords and wait a few years until everything you just did becomes shitty too so you can do it all over again okay kitten. its literally that easy.
"all you ever do is complain" that's not true. I also resent.
and love..........
whoever said all-nighters are exhausting is a liar i'm doing great. i've never felt better in my entire life, the birds are chirping as they welcome me into the gates of morningdom

Even though we know very little about Hermeticism, I think I can conclusively say, it is the first historical evidence of a unified theory of western magic. There are earlier fragmentary texts that demonstrate a magical theory and a praxis, but the Hermetics incorporate it into both religion and philosophy in a novel way. What's frustrating is that we don't really know how. Their writings on sympathies between the stars and herbs and stones are clearly related to their opinions on celestial spirits and sacred names, but we are only seeing part of the puzzle.
I can't say this in scholarly language so I'll say it here:
More than any other occult topic, studying Hermeticism is like edging. The Hermetic Corpus is soo similar to so many other greco-roman religious movements, but the scholarship always zags at the last second.
"You might the Hermetics were low level Egyptian priests, like with Zosimos of Panopolis and the birth of alchemy. It makes sense, they were both occult movements centered around scholars in Roman egypt, But there is no actual evidence. Bitch."
"You might think a lot of the stranger elements of Hermetica are syncretism with Egyptian religion right? All this shit was written in Egypt. It even explicitly claims to come from Egyptian gods. But basically all of the language is greco-judaic. They're Platonists. Bitch."
"Maybe theyre an initatory cult? There's that bit in Ennead Reveals the Odgdoad where the master calls down spirits so the student can see? That seems initatory? But that's just one instance. A lot of the supporting evidence is based on interpretation, and has good arguments against Hermeticism being a literal mystery tradition. It's one argument among many. Bitch."
All that said. It's an incredibly rewarding body of work to study. It reminds me a lot of reading the Enneads, where the underlying ideas become more clear with re-reads. But who has the time?
