âI sit before flowers hoping they will train me in the art of opening up.â
Shane Koyczan -
âMany of my movies have strong female leads - brave, self-sufficient girls that donât think twice about fighting for what they believe in with all their heart. Theyâll need a friend, or a supporter, but never a savior. Any woman is just as capable of being a hero as any man.â - Hayao Miyazaki
(in reference to this post)
There are most certainly labels that should require strict qualifications before you can use them as an identifier. Doctor, lawyer, professor, blowfish chef. If you arenât a Time Lord or havenât gone to medical school, you should not be calling yourself a doctor.
And I will agree that people shouldnât misrepresent themselves because they think it will help them fit in or seem cool. For a long time I told people I was 1/64th wombat so they would like me more and excuse my extra furry parts. But looking back, I didnât need to be a wombat to fit in. People liked me just fine as I was.Â
That said, there are some labels that should not require extensive qualifications or an interrogation. Iâm agnostic. Do I really have to prove that I am skeptical about the existence of a deity? Will I get my agnostic card revoked if I enjoy Jesus Christ Superstar? I own several bibles too. Iâve even read large bits of them. Whenever I stub my toe I call out the lordâs name. I also follow like 6 of the 10 commandments.Â
The truly offensive part of this is that if a male says they are a gamer, they are not questioned. It is just accepted. Not once have I ever had to prove myself. You donât need to show how many hours you logged playing Call of Duty. You donât need all the achievements in Assassinâs Creed. (Iâm never going to find all those goddamn flags.) You just have to identify as male and a gamer and youâre in the club.Â
If you enjoy playing video games, you are a gamer. And even if you feel someone is not as gamer-y as you, it doesnât really matter. It has no effect on your love of video games.
Women play video games. They are gamers. I know some that are quite passionate about them. They write fanfiction, create mods, and spend hours fashioning elaborate cosplay. Frankly, they put my gamer-ness to shame. But not once have they ever accused me of not being gamer enough. I think if male gamers like this fellow keep this attitude, there will be very little interaction with their lifestyleâs or actual dick.
Thank you, Frogman. Thank you.
Hereâs my realistic PokĂŠmon interpretations so far! They started off as detailed sketches/quick drawings but I think Iâm just going to call them interpretations now! They depict my three favourite PokĂŠmon per type, excluding legendaries, Gen 6 PokĂŠmon and Fairy type. Favourite Dragon Types: Flygon | Haxorus | Garchomp Favourite Ghost Types: Gengar | Sableye | Banette Favourite Fire Types: Houndoom | Arcanine | (Soon-to-be Charizard) Which type should I do next?

do you ever get weirded out by the fact that everyone around you is constantly within their own mind and thinking a million secret thoughts and battling internal struggles just like you...
#SHE IS NOT EVEN ANYWHERE NEAR THE GENERAL AREA OF FUCKING AROUND GODDAMN
Hello Queen of Genovia
Thereâs something my grandmother used to do whenever Iâd start dating someone; I would tell her his name and then she would say âOh, what part of town does he live in?â. That was her way of asking if my boyfriend was white. Oh yeah, my grandmother was an out-and-out racist. So I know what prejudice looks like.
I Â dont know what this is, but I like it
Edit: I have been informed that this is from Scandal. Thank you!

Some interesting info: This is very reminiscent of the Baby X experiments, in which it was discovered that people reacted differently to a babyâs behavior depending on whether or not they believed the baby to be male or female. Â People were asked to watch a video of a baby reacting to a startling image (a Jack-in-the-box popping up), and describe the babyâs emotional state. Â When people believed the baby to be female, they described the baby as being scared and upset; when they thought the baby was male, they perceived the baby to be angry. Â This was very telling, as it showed that literally identical behavior could be construed differently based on the perceived gender of the subject.
(tw:rape) If owning a gun and knowing how to use it worked, the military would be the safest place for a woman. Itâs not. If women covering up their bodies worked, Afghanistan would have a lower rate of sexual assault than Polynesia. It doesnât. If not drinking alcohol worked, children would not be raped. They are. If your advice to a woman to avoid rape is to be the most modestly dressed, soberest and first to go home, you may as well add âso the rapist will choose someone elseâ. If your response to hearing a woman has been raped is âshe didnât have to go to that bar/nightclub/partyâ you are saying that you want bars, nightclubs and parties to have no women in them. Unless you want the women to show up, but wear kaftans and drink orange juice. Good luck selling either of those options to your friends. Or you could just be honest and say that you donât want less rape, you want (even) less prosecution of rapists.

Star forts
A fortification style that evolved during the age of gunpowder, when the cannon came to dominate the battlefield.
The geometry is intended to present the attacker with the worst possible angles of attack, and to subject them to as much inter-locking/ cross fire as possible.

An 8-year-old girl camper began swimming near the edge of the pool by me. She was a tiny girl with a bubbly personality, and she was very attached to me. Upon seeing us talking, the boy swam over and started chasing her around the water. It was clear from the way she was trying to get away from him and her screeching that she wanted to be left alone â her body language and tense demeanor should have showed that she was uncomfortable â but if that wasnât enough of a clue, the âstopâ she yelled in protest should have been enough for him to go away. Thatâs when it really hit me how serious the situation was. I could immediately picture it escalating. I didnât see an 8-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy anymore; I saw the two of them as fully grown and matured adults. The girl was still small and skinny, and the boy was large enough to overpower her with little effort. I could see her running away from him, trying to push off his advances in a more sexual situation, but him refusing to believe that she really wanted him to stop. I saw him ignoring her physical protests right along with the verbal ones, convinced she wanted him there. It horrified me. I reprimanded him immediately, insisting that when someone asks you to stop, itâs important to listen. Almost seconds later, a male counselor standing by the same section of the pool told him not to listen to me and to continue his pursuit of this little girl, despite her obvious protests. Here were two boys, roughly 10 years apart in age, but with the same views on women: that consent doesnât matter. Itâs not a generational thing: this mindset has clearly been ingrained into the public psyche from an early age. How often are we told not to take no for an answer? How often do we see children pestering their parents about getting a new toy until they eventually give in? How often do we hear about a womanâs whims coming with her menstrual cycle? How often do we see on television shows and in movies a woman âchanging her mindâ about a man who is persistent enough or who just proves himself worthy? The idea that a woman will change her mind is so ingrained that we canât always recognize it at first.

Red Beach, China
Red Beach is located in the Liaohe River Delta, about 30 kilometers southwest of Panjin City in China. The beachâs unique color is caused by a type of plant called Suaeda vera or Shrubby Sea-blite which is a coastal species that flourishes in the saline-alkali soil. The plant remains green during the summer but in the fall, when the plant has matured, it takes on a deep red color creating a stunning red sea landscape. Most of Red Beach is a nature reserve and closed to the public. Only a small, remote section is open to tourists.
