so are watcher fans going to apologize for the unreal amounts of racism they projected toward steven or are we going to pretend that was totally normal behavior?

i am seeing all of the criticism of watchertv (and agreeing of course - it's entirely tone deaf and un-conducive among other things) but i feel as though the attitude i am seeing from a lot of people online involve absolving shane entirely, saying things like, "shane blink twice if they made you do this!" "shane "eat the rich" would never allow this!" "he was forced into this!" and redirecting all of the blame unto ryan and steven - mostly steven - saying that steven is the "ned fulmer of watcher" (wild thing to say) and delegating the responsibility of this decision entirely onto the two of them, and i cannot help but feel like there is an undeniable racial undertone to this rather vitrolic pivot. i understand being a fan of shane - i myself was a proud shaniac! - but i plead that we be conscious about woobifying an adult man who - though could have very well opposed the decision - was still one of the three ceos who okayed it! nothing is gained from scapegoating the two asian men and relinquishing the white one for the hate that this business venture is garnering. please, by all means, continue to criticize, but if you are, do it tastefully, and be careful with insinuations - especially without knowing the intricacies of the situation (and even if/when we do know something. criticism should never come from veiled bigotry) ! just because the property itself is shifting rather horribly doesn't mean we as watcherinas need to turn our community toxic <33

genuinely cannot imagine dickriding the watcher guys the way some of you have been. like they made a bad business decision! they alienated their audience! they made jokes about "eating the rich" and then one of their owners turned around and bought a tesla! they said they'd pull all their old content off youtube and then immediately backpedaled and started gaslighting the people who noticed it! they're just guys on the internet, they're not your friends and they are not anti-capitalists. they just want money and they don't care about their primarily young/international/non-wealthy audience.

i think at this point we need to have a deep discussion on hero worship, parasocial relationships, and how corporations and large scale content creators function. also - demonizing the two poc on a team of three while saying shane is so anti-capitalist and would never do this is also weird and strange! y'all go off ab this and that while ignoring that creating scenarios ab "behind the scenes" is fucking weird, it's like the ned fulmer affair all over again! we literally do not know this people deep down, do i need to point at the sign again!

also to add - i am not defending watcher, they can take their 6 dollars a month and shove it up their ass, but is anyone actually surprised that there's a sense of tone deafness to this? they're basically sell outs at best, and this level of "it's only 6 dollars!" during a recession and their target audience being young and broke is dumb, but this fandom rlly needs to start inspecting their internal biases and hero worship of literally just two guys.

The people trying to say Shane was forced into this and would never do this are so psrasocial and also just weird. Shut up. You don't know how he's going to feel about every decision. I highly doubt he was forced into this, he is part of the decision making process.

You know what? I think Shane Madej deserves more credit for being literally the only man in the genre to actually walk the talk that he doesn’t believe in this shit. Other shows will be like “I am so SKEPTICAL I am a hardcore DEBUNKER” and then *two seconds later meme* “holy shit dude shadow people truly do control the government and Hillary Clinton hired the men in black to kill people, oh my god it’s all connected!” Ladies, if a man says he’s a skeptic, then he better be prepared to lie on a demon pentagram and laugh when a flashlight turns on and says it wants to kill him. Never settle for anything less.
