Sorry for the unsolicited advice, but please do think it over. Dachshunds (and many other small breeds) actually require quite a lot of activity and exercise (mental and physical)*. If those needs aren't met, that can cause so many difficult behavioral problems. They're working dogs, after all: if they aren't given a job, they'll find one themselves (and it'll be likely something very annoying or unpleasant to you)

Also, a lot of people who do like cats want a Maine Coon because they've seen pictures of mine or others', and they're majestic! Huge!! Fluffy!!! Such a good kitty!!!!

Oh no. Reading the reblog on this just crushed me and sent me into crisis. My ex’s cat was a Maine Coon. I adored her and she adored me. She got out one time and I spent several hours walking the block around our apartment showing her picture to anyone I saw and then when I felt like I wasn’t seeing enough people, started knocking on doors. I wasn’t afraid to be annoying- I was afraid I was going to lose my cat. I was only there sometimes, but she was always with me when I was. I think she was indifferent to her actual owner. The girl treated the cat better than she treated me. But she wasn’t a great person. And now I can’t shake the thought that the cat thinks of me as often as I think of her 😭😭😭

I love your "they ring the same bells for weddings and funerals" tag bc I work as a bell-ringer at one of the few churches in my city where you still have to ring the bell manually. and we do ring the same bell whether it's a wedding or a funeral! but ☝️ we also ring it if the local sports team wins at sports (the secret third thing that is neither a wedding nor a funeral)
