"Relationships or Why do we keep letting rapists publish books?" by Alissa Newman
Hey all! Sorry we've been a little out of touch. Things have been crazy. I'm out in California for the summer. Turns out there is no time in California. It's like Wonderland. One minute you're thinking "man, I should really write that blog post" the second you're eating something just because the label told you to do it.
Essentially, Sonny and I have been really busy AND I have been avoiding writing this entry because it makes me sick. Sonny will hopefully update soon with her relationship entry. Then we also have MYSTERY! Which was fun and I'll do that update soon. Currently, we're both working on... "Self-help"? I think? Sonny, what section are our current books from?
ENJOY!
You may remember the Kickstarter controversy a while back surrounding a crowd-funding project for a book called Above the Game: A Guide to Getting Awesome with Women by a douchebag named Ken Hoinsky. If you don’t remember this, please read about it here:
http://caseymalone.com/post/53339539674/this-is-not-fucking-harmless
To sum it up, Ken Hoinsky was spouting his sexist and rape-y advice on reddit. Some douchebag minions “reddit” and liked what he had to say or some nonsense. He then proceeded to create a Kickstarter project to raise money in order to publish his book. People like Ken Hoinsky go by the term “pick up artists” and from what I can tell all that means is they demean, lie to, and sexually assault women all in the name of “the game”. I’m not exactly clear on what “the game” is, except that it involves demeaning, lying to, and raping women.
The book I read for “Relationships” was a book by another rapist. Oh yeah, he’s also a loser and he goes by the name of Mystery. You probably remember him from a show called The Pick Up Artist. On the show and in his book, The Mystery Method, Mystery (God, I will never be able to say that with a straight face) teaches men how to pick up women.
I’m just going to leave a few quotes here for you to read (I take no responsibility for damage to your property after you read this and throw your computer out your window.
“If you can build enough comfort with a woman for her to be alone in a room with you during the mid-game stage, then she will readily agree to have sex with you in the end-game stage.” Pg. 85
WRONG!
“Stop being ‘into’ the conversation for a bit. In that state of mind, she is extremely susceptible to escalation.” Pg. 217
VOMIT!
“A man with a gun gets more compliance than one with a hose. Of course, the Venusion artist will never actually pull out a gun. But there are other ways to punish defiance.” Pg. 224
SOMEONE PLEASE PUT THIS MAN IN PRISON.
“So you turn away for a second, which indicates lack of interest, delivering a slight emotional tinge directly to her. When you’re training a dog to, say, not jump on you, don’t hit its nose. That shows anger, and dogs often can’t correlate your anger with their behavior.” Pg. 261
HE LITERALLY EQUATES WOMEN TO DOGS!
“Within twenty minutes of meeting a woman, technically expect to be able to kiss her…” Pg. 278
NOPE. THAT SORT OF THING LEADS TO RAPE.
This is just the start of some of the things that he says in this book. I want to point out that this is a book that is sold not only in the “relationships” section of a book store (there was no mention of relationships once in this book), but of a fucking Barnes & Noble!
It is unacceptable that this should be sold in one of if not the largest book chain in the country. It is unacceptable that Ken Hoinksy’s book got funded on a website like Kickstarter. Sure, they apologized. They said they were wrong. Guess what, Kickstarter, NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
