Every Woman - 23rd of July
I rarely feel like a person at all. Often I feel like I’m either an animal or a god. Everything else in between feels like an invention.
Well, perhaps… just perhaps that is exactly what makes me a woman.
Most of the times I forget about it or that I have ever lived as anything else. There’s a quiet hunger to it; the oils on my scalp are produced with the moon phases, but I usually don’t even think of it. Then I am reminded of what and who I am, and I have to remind them that I could not possibly be anything other, although I don’t feel like one, per se, real woman.
And as I walk down the street I wonder if then every woman feels the same, if they also entertain this same quiet hunger inside themselves. Does my mother feel it? And did so her mother and the mother of her mother before her? Did Queen Elizabeth? Does Madonna? Does every woman also feel this immense sort of power in their bodies, this ocean restrained? Or am I the only one to feel vulnerable and powerful at the same time?
I feel much closer to a bee than I have felt any kinship towards any men, almost like we are of very different species.
Is it all to being a woman, though? An opposition to what it means being a man. Is it there my certainty? Am I a woman only and just because I know for sure I am not a man and never was. Is it all for every woman? Is it enough?
