#ProjectARK [long post]... We are almost 3 weeks into 2018 and I can't help but reflect on 2017 and how I had this sinking feeling that the world was slowly starting to lose its humanity and compassion. There are many persons who walk around thinking no one in the world cares about them. Whether their lives are bad or good and if they live or die. With everyone's heads stuck in their phones it's a pretty hard case to disprove. However, I've found that one Act of Random Kindess (ARK) is like a drop in a body of water. It creates a ripple effect that can go on for longer than we may think. It can touch more persons than we can imagine. I remember just after Christmas I was heading home from work and forgot my wallet. A complete strangers offered to pay my fare after seeing my distress and I felt so touched by that unexpected kindness I knew I had to #payitforward. The next week I was at the High Court in Berbice filing documents at the Registry and there was an elderly woman filing her own documents. She didn't have enough local currency for her filing fees and asked if I'd loan her the balance until she changed her money at the market and could give it back to me. I gave her what she needed and told her there's no need to pay me back. It's okay. She was so touched by that little gesture of kindness that tears began to form in her eyes and she told me about how she always does kind things for people without ever expecting anything in return. So much so that she became the 'go to' person for many people in need. She said she never expected to randomly be a recipient of that sort of unconditional kindness. I was lucky enough to be part of the ripple effect of kindness and I'll always continue to pay it forward.
