"I asked chat gpt-" yeah?? And I'm asking why lord if this is how I die lord
something about how forgetting is such a fundamentally human trait, but moreso is remembering. I remember your shimmering wind chime laugh. I remember how you used to put flowers in your hair. I remember how you would make me sweetened turmeric milk, and the pitch of your anklets' bells. I remember the lilt of your voice like I heard it yesterday. there have been so many yesterdays since the last time I heard that voice. the day of your death passed like any other. I forgot it, but I have not forgotten you. a part of you sits on the sofa in my living room, a part of you studies for an exam, a part of you presses into my venules like a wax-seal stamp.
on time, finally.
how time takes it all, how healing hurts more than the bruising sometimes, how time is taken. an energy, an enigma. never really leaves, just evaporates into something either pungent or perfumed.

when Alex Turner sang "I've got a million things to do//but they're all secondary" and when the all-american rejects sang "I go around a time or two//just to waste my time with you" and when Bruno Major sang "there's nothing like doing nothing with you"

recently, I've been plagued with thoughts of time. memory, wasting (decomposing? rotting? becoming a victim of sandpaper?) and passing. officially, I am closer to 20 than 10. there's this lovely poem I read in school two years ago– On Turning Ten. one stanza in particular, "It seems only yesterday I used to believe//there was nothing under my skin but light.//If you cut me I would shine.//But now if I fall upon the sidewalks of life,//I skin my knees. I bleed.", makes me wonder how time and it's slow waltz to death makes childhood its partner. some things, I understand. how I must be more disciplined, care more about structure and routine. others, not so much; there is a fine line between maturing and forcing the normative. from a societal perspective, the commodification of time takes so much away from us. I'd like to add so much more, but I'm running out of time. my hands have been cupped to form a sand clock. how it manages to slip away through the tiniest of pores. I wish I was absorbent, wish the seconds would seep into my skin like a steroid cream, only a sedative.
lots of love,

true love waits, or so I am told.

"I am just loose words hanging on the ends of your lips" -- Pete Wentz
every thought I have of you pervades my memory like a perfect example of a parasite and yet the druglike, codeine nature of it all has this grip on my heart almost as strong as you do (the thought of you is not the same as you). If god saw the way I'd treat you he'd be so jealous that he'd make another sin. In the light, I want to be your shadow. In the dark, I want to be the rays of lamplight falling clumsily over your face (do you make everything lose balance? I swear gravity herself falters at the sound of your voice). In the in between, fading twilight and rising moon, I want to be yours. perhaps that is the least likely to come true of them all. I cannot want you enough for you to want me too. your gene code must be beautiful written in every language. every atom of yours makes me weak in the knees and desperate in the eyes. somehow, I love the way you think more than I love the way you dress. my irises are cobalt and yours are magnets– pulling away feels like warring with my own soul. every birthday wish I've had, I wish I had spent on you.
"I'll be your record player baby, if you know what I mean,"
I wish I could curl between the frets of your guitar and your fingertips. I wish I could be the messily scrawled annotations in the margins of your books. I wish I could be your morning birdsong and midnight skyline. If I wish to hold you, is it enough to say I have?
New York Times, Strands #526: “Find The Remainder”
“The day after you stole my heart/
Everything I touched told me/
It would be better shared with you, with you/
And now you're hiding in my soup/
And this book reveals your face,”
On days we aren't together, I find you in the bottom of my still-warm soup bowls and a craving for sichuan. You look back at me from the roughened glass of my window, from the blurry reflection of a thumbprint on my phone screen– residue from a phone call ended too quickly and texts left unseen, unsent. I search for you in the dirtied copper of my prayer lamps, discovering you in the spot of my fingertips instead. Blackened palms trace creases you left within my origami heart, then unfold them like cheap fortunes from cookies shaped of currencies different from my own. Is it wrong to say the lines left behind are remnants of your full smiles? The clouds whisper your secrets back to me like sick echoes of July nights. I cover my ears like it makes a difference. Sometimes, I swear the pounding of my head, of my heart, is the rhythm of your voice and your drumming fingers on your phone’s keyboard. I miss imagining my laughter was the melody to your unintentional cadence. I miss wishing you would listen to it with purpose. For now, I will hope I am not the only one haunted by muffled speakers in neighbourhood malls and buskers on streets in a city quite unlike Paris. I will continue stumbling past ghosts of you in my needs and wantings. As the nights pass, so will this. So will you.
I've been trying to write about the big bang for days but all I can think of is how there was no colour just opaque waves of dust and every time I picture something so empty causing eternal vibrancy and life without realising it I cannot help but find it utterly comical so I will imagine the explosions were the same shade as your honeyed eyes and the cigarette smoke of your father (that you will not swat away despite hating the suffocation) because whatever made this universe must be the same as what crafted you/ there are so many similarities between the warmth at your core and the burning midnight of the ground (I am dependent on both for survival) and I think the spiders you love tried mimicking your silk hair to dance in and live through because they know you are life in its purest form– spontaneous, unintentionally beautiful, and painful to love (so, so, painful to love. but easy too.)
