As promised, I report on the evening before at the preview of “Swimming with Men” in Cologne …!

I kindly ask you to be a little considerate of the quality of the post … because I am currently in a somewhat ailing mental state … Nevertheless, here are a few pictures of the cinema itself, before I get to the actual topic: the movie !!!

was in the entrance not overlooked …. !!!! Thank God…

At the cash register the tickets were picked up quickly and for free there was a small bag of popcorn for every winner! ( Please do not pay attention to my strangely long thumb in the lower corner of the picture … I am told too often that it looks like a fifth figer and not like a thumb … +. +)

Then it was time for the entrance to the screening room hall 2 !!! 

Our room was the one with the orange seats, I just packed in the picture above, because in the dark you can see the room and the size so bad … 

Unfortunately … SORRY … we were not allowed to take pictures and not film during the show … and therefore only my conclusion ….

Guys … honestly … I do not want to give away too much (no spoilers) BUT … the movie has distracted me for a short time …. (it’s about the 104 minutes of movie fun) really so much that I forgot everything around me !!! 

The underwater scenes have made me so calm, as if I myself had been in the pool

… and Rupert

… God … I was so happy that he had an important lead role !!! Not that the other characters had a minor role … but so much to say … at the end of the movie, there’s a kiss !!! 

I’m really excited about “Swimming with Men” and I could go back to the movies right away … Especially because the movie combines an ingenious mix of humor, realism and authenticity, which I miss so much in most other blockbuster movies … 

I laughed tears, cheered and it has touched my heart very much … especially because it is based on a true story … !!! 

And a very big praise goes to the actors themselves … my goodness … there were no synchronized swimmers who appeared in the film … (at least not from the UK … but I will not tell you more at this point;-) !!!) …and yet everything was so authentic that I take off my hat and bow myself for all of them!!! BRAVO…

SO … my conclusion: 

If you need something, that

-had a perfect soundtrack for summer;-)

- cheers up

- brings you to other thoughts

- is funny

- shows naked skin (and a firm butt is also revealed)

- and a movie that goes to the heart and touches … then take a look at “swiming with Men” !!! 

It definitely worth it … !!!

Ok … somehow I can not quite without …

I’ll give you three small spoilers on the way: 1.) Rupert (who in the movie is called Luke and is incredibly sexy over the whole time in and out of the water) has a houseboat and that awakens in me a lot of “mystrade” fantasies about captain’s games and so on… Like “don’t rock the boat baby” and the same …

2.) My absolute favorite sidekick character was Thomas also called “Tom” … the gags he brings during the movie are awesome … so pay special attention to the young gentlemen … ;-)

3.) At the end of the championship and the freestyle part

I was blown away and I would have liked to jump on my cheeks … (okay … I wanted to applaud all the time before that … crazy, don’t you think? So the movie had just drawn me too much in his spell ; -) …) …because of this song playing during their performance:

I had tears of joy in my eyes … the movie was awesome … I give 5 out of 5 stars as a rating … !!! <3

Well that was it really … You have to see “Swimming with Men” … and then you tell me if you liked it, …. okay?

I think the other two members of the team who aren’t on the poster are actors who also do synchronised swimming so they were a little more experienced than the rest but the clip on Sport Relief showed just how well they’ve all learned it!

…filming in or on the water is slow and tough. Especially down in the deep end, with actors often drifting in and out of frame. “It’s very strange acting in water,” says Graves, who plays Luke, a divorced father and the linchpin of the group. “You can’t hear what [Oliver Parker] the director’s saying, or the people you’re sharing the scene with. You feel a bit like a bewildered meerkat at times.” Which is, we suppose, better than being a drowned rat.

Oh my god. 

So he’s going to be pining and authoritative?

WHILE ALSO BEING WET AND HALF-DRESSED?

Let’s hope “linchpin” translates to lots and lots of scenes with Luke! *fingers crossed*                     

Definitely! What do you want to bet @mottlemoth there’s a heartfelt scene where he tells Eric not to make the same mistakes he’s made…

The Filmmaker’s Podcast was a great interview with Rupert and Daniel Fitzsimmons, Native’s director. Loads of great chat on how Rupert got started, what he looks for in a script, how Native got put together and they finished by asking some of the fan-submitted questions that were asked for last week.

I was really delighted that mine was one of the questions asked (I hoped it would be since I tried to tie it to a central aspect of Native) and I loved Rupert’s answer! :)

Filmmakers Podcast: Do you remember the first piece (or one of the first pieces) of music that you felt [you] really connected with?

Rupert: In life?

FP: In life.

RG : <exhales loudly>

RG : Bowie… Abba.. The Wombles…

FP & DF: The Wombles?

RG: I remember really being deeply struck by Remember You’re A Womble, when was it, yeah, I think it was Remember You’re A Womble. I think the first piece of music was sitting on Mike Thurger’s front room in Weston-super-Mare, listening to probably Ziggy Stardust and looking at the words going “Oh my God, I didn’t realise people could write stuff like that in a pop song” and looking at his words and just my mind blowing in a kind of Cane like way.

DF: How old were you then?

RG: 10, 11, 12, something like that.

I genuinely can’t tell if he’s joking about The Wombles or not - I really really hope not!
