The Best is Yet To Come for PDF
What makes PDF preferable than the others? The answer is easy! PDF enables you to send and receive files in the same manner as it is designed. It’s ideal for a document that needs to be printed precisely — like this Pop-up Nativity set. What you see is what you get. From the typeface, to color and design — up to the trifling detail — PDF got it all checked. Because of its portability, PDF has become the favorite not only with designers but even the neophyte in the digital world.
PDF (an abbreviation that stands for Portable Document Format) used to be the barometer of success when it comes to the digital universe. It's an all-around file format that gives people an easy, definitive means to present and interchange files. When it comes to eBook, PDF always comes up on top of the field. It has thumped the likes of TXT, RTF and even Word when it comes to sending files over the web.
Any application nowadays, from word processing to page layout, can create its own digital file. Just a moment, just a moment. You might be curious, hey, why then do we need to change our document to PDF? If a word processing file, especially a page layout program can turn out dazzling schemes using its own program, why do you need to change it to PDF? Why not send it in its native format? The rejoinder here is that the document sadly gets waylaid once sent in the net or opened on another computer. Unfortunately, the typeface, layout and design are compromised when viewed on another computer. Yes, your computer and other computers differ in many points of comparison. Unless your computer is exactly the same as the one that sent the document and vice-versa, some elements tend to be inconsistent from the original file. The typeface are usually replaced with another and the pictures are lost. It's because you need to have the same typeface and pictures in your console for you to successfully see the file exactly as it is.
This is what makes a PDF file different from the rest. The PDF retains all the design elements incorporated in a file. From the font used, to the colors, images and design layout, everything is kept intact. You are assured that whoever receives your PDF file will see all the work you have put in it. Every aspect of your file is embedded to your saved PDF file. That is the reason that it has become the industry standard when it comes to digital books or eBook.
Significantly, PDF’s popularity has waned over the years. Oh, well, with the advent of HTML5, Flip-page and ePub, PDF has lost its grip on eBook supremacy. HTML5, Fixed ePub and Flip-page format does exactly what a PDF does and more. Being able to present a file exactly as it is is no more the sole domain of the PDF.
But is this the end for PDF? A resounding no, no, no! PDF still has its tangible use. Although HTML5 and Flip-page format offers a WYSIWYG, PDF is still the trusted format when sending files that need accurate measurements. Diagrams, templates, plans and the likes are best sent in PDF format. You are positive that the measurements are to a tee, especially if you want it printed.
If you have a model, perhaps a pop-up model of a Nativity Set or a DIY project, the best way to send it is in a PDF format.
So like it or not, PDF is still here to stay. So like it or not, PDF is still here to stay. It’s light and it’s comfortable to use, not to mention that a lot of apps support PDF.
With a PDF, you can never go wrong, uhm, at least your measurement can never go wrong!
And lest you forget, a l-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-t of eBook files are in PDF and a lot more are being produced using it. So if you think the PDF is going away, you’ve got it way too wrong. Also, HTML5, Flip-Book and even fixed ePub files n-e-e-e-e-e-e-d-s to use a PDF file for conversion. Who knows? It may reclaim its place as the head in the eBook totem pole.
