Bluestar stalked closer, ears still pinned, muscles rippling under her fur; she wouldn’t have been so hostile under normal circumstances, but this place was in no way familiar, and she knew she could be killed if she put one paw in the wrong place.

Not that she was in trouble now, but if she could, she’d eliminate any threat she could to save her hide. So she growled, her throat rumbling-

-and then leapt into the air in sheer horror when the door swung open!

Strangely enough, the tom paid absolutely no attention to the human approaching them and tossing trash out. He kept fearfully staring at the she-cat, fur still bristled, body trembling.

Once the she-cat spoke, the tom's ears perked up. He lifted his head slightly as he asked, "...Y-you promise ya won't hurt me? I...I ain't do nothin'..."

The she-cat’s impatience and tired frustration threatened to swamp her mind, but she inhaled and made her fur lie flat. “Yes. I promise I won’t hurt you.”

Bluestar didn’t have anything else to say, so she waited a moment. Her ears were pinned, but she had no intentions of attacking at the moment.

“…please come out.”

Let's get angsty in this bitch

Bluestar was only just aware, at first, of some kind of feeling against her, soft, but accompanied by fear-scent; she was groggy and out of it, but she knew what had happened.

She’d lost her second-to-last life.

Forcing her tired eyes open, the she-cat’s whiskers twitched. She glanced up. Sergio had his ear against her chest as she lay on her side! She knew Fireheart was- or had been- in her new den, too, but his scent wasn’t as strong as Sergio’s was.

Inhaling slowly, relieved that her chest didn’t rattle and ache with each breath, Bluestar carefully raised her head, and she let a gentle chuckle out through her nose.

“…good morning, young one…”

Her voice was raspy, but sympathetic. He’d been in here a while. She knew that much.
