Here is the Newtad line's old artwork, leaning more into some dinosaur inspiration. I wanted to keep some of the old design's "beakiness" so it's especially prominent in Salamande and Amphibiking's designs. Amphibiking's face also is similar to salmon, tying it to its river dwelling nature. The line as a whole has a smug aura....one of the old pokedex entries for Salamande reads, "It will ask its trainer to carry it if its legs get too tired, which is often." If I were to redesign this line I would probably tone down the fiddly details, maybe taking inspiration from giant salamanders would be more fitting, but overall I'm really happy with their shape language.
