Far be it of me to comment on the politics of another nation, but the Binface thing is so fucking funny. I just saw an attempted smear article against Binface in the Telegraph. It was basically just like THIS JOKE IS NOT FUNNY IT IS STUPID ALSO A DIFFERENT GOOFY POLITICIAN WHO DID A SIMILAR BIT KILLED THEMSELVES (stay classy Telegraph) AND ALSO DID YOU KNOW BINFACE IS LIBERAL!?!?!?!?!?
I'm reminded of a time in high school during student body elections, when some of my friends began posting signs around the school to encourage students to write in a vote for the pokemon blastoise. And no one really took it seriously until the school did a psa over the morning intercom not to vote for blastoise and to take the election seriously.
After that everyone in the school, now realizing they had the ability to actually mildly disrupt the proceedings of those in power, agressively and obsessively began campaigning for blastoise. 'A vote for blastoise is a vote for blastoise. Vote Blastoise.' Became the most common thing to hear in the hallway. Some people even made tshirts with a tshirt press. Eventually a human was elected but only because the school didnt count the blastoise votes. Real voter fraud happening here. I bet the boring human class president only got like 3 votes in total but I'll never know how much my hero Blastoise was cheated.
Anyway a vote for Binface is a vote for Binface. Vote binface.
very controversial opinion here, but sometimes customer service workers are the problem đś
no, you shouldn't be expected to be polite to customers because they're customers. you should be expected to be polite to customers because they are people
like, a person with a stutter trying to order or an old lady asking you for help with a chair is not rude customer behavior. you are not excused for being nasty to them because you work in customer service
The "just don't be an asshole" rule strikes again
you get little cultural (sometimes social justice-) memes about which categories of people you get to be systematically annoyed at- or mean to, or whatever little outlet for rightous rudeness and casual cruelty, but at the end of the day maybe just don't lose sight of "don't be an asshole"
I overheard a coworker at the college who works essentially customer service for students mocking people with a mean voice who want their names changed or fixed on their records. For what? Why? Why be an asshole over someone's NAME? Why is it bad to want your name correct on student records?
And the funniest part of that is I'm a student worker and my name is fucked in the system. So they were mocking me directly without knowing? đ
I say this as someone who worked food service and retail for many, many years and is fully aware of how awful and soul destroying working customer service can be, but:
I think people also often forget that power dynamics don't always fully favor the customer, and sometimes power dynamics can be tilted in the favor of the customer service worker and subsequently abused. Able bodied customer service workers can be, and often are, ableist to disabled customers. White customer service workers can be, and often are, racist towards customers of color. Customer service workers who are men can be, and often are, sexist towards customers who are women. Customer service workers who are non-immigrants can be, and often are, xenophobic towards immigrant customers. Shall I go on? That's obviously not an exhaustive list and I could very well go on.
When I worked retail I had a co-worker scream at a little old lady and kick her out of the store because she spoke to him in a language he didn't speak. I saw her face as she was leaving and she looked so shaken up like she was about to cry. I've overheard so many of my co-workers calling customers racial slurs behind their back. Once again, I could go on, but I feel like my addition here is already getting long enough.
Yes, you should be able to stand up to customers who are being unreasonable jerks, you should be able to refuse service to customers who are being unreasonable jerks. But the ones who aren't doing anything harmful you should still be nice to, not because it's your job, but because they're a human being.
Adding to this from my experience as a manager in a call center for the state.
One customer being mean to you isn't justification for being to another.
You will often deal with customers who don't speak the same language you do. Being patient is going to go a lot further than being mean.
When a customer has a bad experience with another representative there going to approach you thinking you're going to be mean to them.
When you don't spend the time listening to customers they don't feel heard. If you don't spend time explaining things fully they won't know.
Yes it's soul crushing when a customer walks in demanding a manager. It's also soul crushing when you ask for help and it's denied.
When they have allergies and they aren't listened to that can very easily lead to death.
Very fascinated by this Walmart shirt. Could they not use the actual phrase or something? It's not even specifying "when you're mean to me" it's just when you're mean in general this particular bunny gets hurt. She carries all suffering. This bunny experiences all evil in the world.
Something really needs to be said about the amount of queer shows with queer fandoms that are weirdly apathetic towards racism and misogyny.

Metamorphosis would be better if it was about a witch finding her neighbours missing cat in a small village in the alps.
Not to oversimplify a complex issue, but i think we could reduce the number of deadly car crashes by increasing wages and having shorter work weeks.
If we have a four day work week instead of five, that reduces car trips for work by about a fifth. Thus reducing car crashes related to traveling for work by roughly 20%.
I'll do you one better- if the 4 day work week had a different 4 days for employees on a company or even individual scale, you have 20% less work traffic Monday through Friday. I suspect taking that edge off for non-work commuters (like those buying groceries) could reduce crashes even further with less cars on the road at peak times.
Even better than this, public transportation infrastructure could reduce the number of cars by letting people on local work commutes travel more efficiently in busses or trains.
The solution is simple: stop abusing the working class and pay us livable wages.
An estimated 16-21% of fatal car crashes are due to fatigue.

Tufted Titmouse in a fairy pose ,from the previous winter. Tupelo meadow ,Central park.
Honestly I sometimes blink at little at people who call Jaxâs Abstraction AU scenarios as âintrusive thoughtsâ.
However.
I also donât deem them as a reflection of her true desires as others do either. I honestly feel like they more represent what she believes would happen.
Theyâre still a red flag/concerning but Iâm not sure they exactly represent what she wants. And I kind of doubt theyâd happen âthat wayâ anyway: because Pomni, Gangle and Zooble when presented donât act âin-characterâ at all anyway.
Thing is: Jax is clearly a complete idiot when it comes to assessing the motives and desires of other people. She clearly doesnât understand any of the members of the circus at all. Says shit like Gangle being happy basically being impossible. Says Ragatha could be taking advantage of you. Has that memed to hell and back scene in episode 6 about archetypes which donât fit at all.
Itâs also possible she doesnât have an accurate read even in how she herself would react either. Itâs hard to say but not impossible.
Overall however: Pomni probably wouldnât be talking like she popped out of a deranged funnybunny shipping fanfic to Jax if Ragatha abstracted. She wouldnât be entirely focused on Jax and her âcharacter developmentâ in that AU if it was real.
The other characters also wouldnât be following âthe scriptâ and itâs hard to say what Jax would actually âimproviseâ with when faced with actual reality. (Though lbr: probably not well).
Like I said before theyâre still⌠deeply concerning. Itâs deeply fucked up actually. And the âintrusive thoughtsâ take is both deeply inaccurate as well as irritating to me. (Just a way to white wash Jax entirely which⌠no: stop that).
But I doubt theyâre a biblically accurate canonical tale of what would absolutely happen either.
Itâs going to be the worst night of the year later today. Jesus. (If you know where I live on this planet and see the calendar date you can probably figure out why).
For those in Ireland/Uk and dealing with the heat:
If you have massive ass windows letting in the sunlight all day and no blinds on them: I recommend the Tommee Tippee temporary stick up blinds which use suction cups to stay up. You can get them in Argos.
Iâve been putting mine up in the east part of my house so my rabbits donât end up cooked mostly. Theyâre used for blackout curtains for babies usually but have the benefit of keeping on said big ass window is that are rooms a few degrees Celcius cooler than they would have been without them!
There's a non-zero chance that a prominent British fascist will lose his parliament seat (in a by-election he himself called) to a man wearing a garbage bin on his head.

Spin the wheel. That's who's trying to kill you.
Spin the wheel again. Thatâs whoâs trying to protect you.
(If you have zero idea about a name you got, spin until you see someone you recognize.)
Are you safe?
Absolutely not. I'm dead. 100% dead.
I might stay alive, but it'll be a really close thing.
I'll take some hits, for certain, but I should be okay in the end.
A few attacks might get through, but nothing concerning.
The attacker might be able to get in one lucky hit. If that.
I am the opposite of worried. I'm 100% safe.
âŚLook. I've tried picturing this. But I honestly don't know how to answer.
(I've run this poll twice before, expanding it significantly for the second run. With about a year passed since that second run, I thought it was time to add another couple hundred names to the list and have another go.)
right wing handwringing over birth rates has always unsubtly been a combination of wanting more white babies/wanting control over women, so it's bothersome that the popular response to that is just pointing out the cost of living. "we Would be having more kids if you guys made some positive changes to society" and such. pronatalist sentiment is becoming so much more explicit that I don't think many self-styled progressives are ready to reconcile with the fact that many women simply do not want to have children. we already see how women are demonized for refusing to undertake the thankless burdens of their mother and grandmother's generations lol, I can't imagine how full abdication from child rearing will come across to some people.
I can't even see "we Would be having kids" as a strategic approach to get conservatives to consider advocating for a higher quality of life considering that they truly could not care less if you, specifically, are poor. it's true that more couples would have kids if it was cheaper, but that will not be enough for these types until women's subservience is codified. even now, they consider the lack of child rearing in today's insane society to be a matter of selfishness. they view themselves as completely different animals than you. they have and will continue to advocate for more advantages for people of their specific backgrounds and income brackets to reinforce this lol.
I think this rhetoric also ignores that the right wing want the inverse for Black and brown people - this logic of âraise living standards and weâll have more kidsâ is a white perspective that ignores white supremacist medical violence, forced abortions, forced sterilisation, mass deportations, mass incarceration, police murder, imperial aggression, and forced removal of children from families as institutional programs of population control (Canadian residential schools, for example, were built for this exact purpose).
Increasing white birth rates is only one half of the equation for the right wing, and this raising-living-standards rhetoric fails to address this completely. Even in the outlandish scenario where the right wing accepts this logic and institutes robust welfare programs, do people think the state will offer these things to black, brown, and indigenous people? In any scenario where this happens it would just be Aryan UBI
