Soma is a game that explores the idea of copying your consciousness into a machine, so that you can theoretically live on forever. During the game you’ll be able to transport your memories or consciousness into another body/machine, but this has a catch.

There’s a 5% chance (if I remember correct) that you’ll be left behind in that transfer of data. Meaning the you, you are now, won’t be present in that model. It’ll still be you, but you’ll stay in the current body that you’ve inhabit. Meaning the copy of your consciousness lives on and you are left behind.

And that’s exactly what happens in the game at the last stretch of it. And I think TADC has a similar ending or concept. Where they’re stuck in the digital world- not bc their physical bodies are, but their minds.

Therefore they can’t leave, because this IS their new home, this is where a copy of their consciousness lives. There is NO outside. They only have a memory of what it was like before the circus, but no details about who they are. Possible due to a mishap during the transfer of data that just hasn’t been accessible for a while (like a bug that doesn’t allow the user to access something but after a while of messing around that might be able to)

I’ve only seen some snippets of TADC and haven’t gotten around to watching the series again (still only officially watched the first episode, nothing else) but I’ve heard about the recently added New Home for the next album that was leaked.

It’s still IHNMAIMS but with a bit of Soma mixed in. The dread of not having anywhere else to go but this digital plain, which is also the same for IHNMAIMS from my understanding of it as, since they go through various adventures AM puts them in, none of it is real, it’s all made up in their heads by AM. Which is where soma fits in to explain why they’re able to stay there even after everything and not be physically harmed, and a reason why they can’t leave.
