What these guys have gone through has been such an epic journey that I don’t think there was gonna be any kind of massive epic fight scene that really would have sufficed to be the one that a Winchester die. I think it had to be something routine like this. And it was. I think it just makes sense that Dean died doing what he loves. How that happened, I think it should have been like that.

I think for me, and I bumped on it a lot when I first read it, I think I was expecting some, giant Lord of the Rings style battle, where Dean jumps off a castle wall with a sword [Jared: And then a Nazgûl get you.] And a dragon swoops in and eats me.… Like something. I’m just spit balling here. I knew that wasn’t gonna happen, nor that I think there couldn’t have been anything in this world that would have been like that. So I think it had to be this. And I think it made sense. And I was talking a bit about this in the gold panel this morning. I believe that these guys where were they always wanted to be. They had bested God, Jack was doing his thing. These guys were now…. they passed the gold line. They were on their victory lap, doing what they loved, they were in a routine, they were hunting monsters and living their life the way they wanted. I think that was the prefect time for something like this to send Dean on his way.

So I came around to it and really applauded.

Bonus

Jensen : I have 2 thoughts on this.

One is, and this is something we’ve heavily discussed during the filming of said scene, was that physically and logistically we were playing the fact that the rebar had positioned itself in a way that if I was taken off of it, it would mean instant death. It was basically holding my lungs together, holding my torso together, which if you took me off of that, I would be gone in seconds.

So that’s kind of how we had to play that, in order to make sense, so he [Sam] didn’t go and run and get an ambulance or go and get the medic bag in the Impala and go into triage mode. So that’s how we kind of got answered that question on the day and logistically.

More kind of why in theory Dean didn’t struggle so much. I mean, he was not happy that he was stuck on a post in the middle of a barn. I think there was something I added there, which is just I just yelled, I forget what I said, like "Damn it" or something, that was not scripted. But I just fell like he would have been like "I wasn’t prepared for this right now."

But once it has settled in that this was happening I think, and we talked a little bit about this in my M&G yesterday, and I think you [Jared], they mentioned that you talked about it too, about how much time that elapsed between the God showdown and the barn scene. And I think I always assumed that several years had gone by. And so they have been living in basically their ideal setting for several years.

They beat the big bad, that saved the world, they saved themselves, they were doing that they loved, they were in a routine that made sense, they found their sweet spot. And I feel that played into Dean’s acceptance, that he had made it, he was okay because he got to where he needed to go. And he was there and had been living there for a while and that was what he needed in his life and he kind of found it.

So I think it was easier to say a few things that he needed to say to his brother in the end.

She’s terrible.  And she’s a completely different person than the one presented to us in seasons 1 to 5.

Retcon Mary is no one’s mom.  She’s a person out of context.  She doesn’t look at those two men and see her sons.  She doesn’t know who they are.  She doesn’t feel any connection to them.  Her sons were tiny children when she last saw them.  There’s a complete disconnect there.

They made this huge deal about resurrecting her then turned her into another random side character and killed her off screen.  !?!?!??? (did she ask for a raise?)  It was all so pointless and disappointing.
