The first person I told was one of my best friends, when I was 14, on the line about to go into an alcohol-free club. I took her aside and I told her like it was nbd, like, āI made out with a girlā, and I was so happy that she reacted exactly the same as if Iād told her, āI made out with a boyā. She asked the same questions, like, ā and where did you meet her?ā āAnd you like her?ā āAnd youāre going to meet again?ā I told my grandpa this summer. Goodness, I could eat him up. He said, āvery good, baby, the market is so bad these days, so at least youāll have an easier time finding someone who deserves you.ā
Me too, with Irene Ferreiro
Iām Irene Ferreiro and Iām bisexual.Ā
When you watch a series, you always have crushes. It started by watching Faking It and Orange Is the New Black. IĀ liked this girl and I liked that other girl too, but it was like, āmaybe I just admire herā or āmaybe the storyline is so well written they made me fall in love with her without me wanting to,ā I donāt know. Since Iād never liked a girl in person, in real life, I felt like a fake bisexual. But then, right, life places people in your life that happen to be girls who youāre attracted to and you find out that you really are bisexual.
I think that bisexuals are oppressed in two ways. Homophobia, because weāre part of the LGBT community, and then biphobia, which is the invisibilization and invalidation of our sexuality. Thereās no shortage of myths⦠Such as us being unfaithful and promiscuous, I love that one. Iāve felt that people Iāve been with have actually felt threatened by anyone I had a friendship with, simply because that person is included in the group of people I can be attracted to. Something that people say a lot is that itās a stage in your life, a phase, that youāll have to make a decision and be either straight or gay. When it comes down to it, people are always questioning you and you end up questioning yourself. [Bisexuality] is not a transition to finding out your real sexuality. Itāll last our entire lives and if a bisexual person is in a long term relationship with a person of the same gender, theyāre not gay, and same goes with a person of another gender.
People who arenāt bisexual are very curious about the percentages of girls and dudes you like, if itās 50/50, if it changes with the season or if you decide, ātoday Iām only going to go for girlsā or, ātoday Iām only going to go for dudes.ā Every person is a world of their own and, basically, what I want is for [bisexuality] to be normalized, because itās normal and everyone should realize that.
As a bi girl playing a bi girl on SKAM EspaƱa, what I feel now is a lot of pressure, to be honest, because Iām all for Cris being a bicon and a referent and itās exactly what I think we wanted to do with this. But I donāt want to be one, personally, I donāt want anyone to put me on a pedestal or to be anyoneās icon. I just want them to see me as representation.
I get lots of messages and itās so cool for my job to also be useful to other people who might be going through a bad time or people whose day is simply a little better for seeing a character with their same sexuality, on the series theyāre watching on their lunch time. I donāt know, I just think itās so cool.
