Membership always spikes around disasters, and JWs are using the pandemic as proof of Armageddon and then offering comfort and lovebombing to entice new converts.

Cults specifically seek out and prey on people who are isolated and going through a major life problem or emotional upheaval. JWs aren’t knocking on doors anymore, but they’re making phone calls, sending letters, texting, handing out pamphlets. Stay safe yourself, check in on people you know, look stuff up before getting even slightly involved with any new group.
