luke mannerisms my absolute beloved…
i love over analyzing things so heres something i noticed in an improv scene video
the audience gives a really good opening line suggestion and luke does this little head tilt with his eyes closed (and whatevers going on with his left hand i dont know how to describe it)
watching him do the movement i realized its something he tends to do when in character as a woman (like sandra in moist and magical im pretty sure does a very similar thing) and that got me into thinking about how all his characters’ little mannerisms are just luke
some examples include:
jonnie from we buried the wrong guy does a nervous sort of hand fidget? it looks like hes sort of doing a very loose fist and running the pad of his thumb along all the other fingers and sometimes he’ll open the fist. its much more exaggerated and nervous for jonnie’s character but if you watch luke when he’s pacing a stage looking for prompts from the audience he absolutely does that
donnie from the detective vs the christmas tree bandits jumps around a lot when in confrontational situations (theres a hilarious gif of it and i love it so much) and that sort of cartoon character movement is incorporated into a lot of luke’s other characters but you also see it when he’s out of character on the side of the stage flipping aj off during wine under the bridge
he picks and chooses traits for his characters but the characters all still express those traits (nervousness, lots of energy, enjoyment, etc) the way luke expresses them.
in a very obvious way (b/c body language is observable in and out of character) this shows how actors tend to bring personal experience into showing characters emotions and how characters always have a little piece of their actor embedded in how theyre developed

The SFTH Rules of Improv
Sam's Rule of Improv: Any scene that can become sexual, will become sexual and most likely problematic (typically via unnecessary moaning sounds)
Tom's Rule of Improv: Avoid getting SFTH cancelled by begrudgingly taking the role of the group's Disappointed Father™ (typically involves unsexualizing and sanitizing Sam's contributions)
Luke's Rule of Improv: Play innocent, then shock your audience AND fellow improvisors by revealing your complete lack of shame and filter when their guard's down
AJ's Rule of Improv: If the plot is clearly going in one direction, take the soonest opportunity to steer that shit off a cliff
And of course the most important SFTH Rule of Improv: If someone makes a mistake, never EVER let it go. It's a plot point now.
