Who's ready for Chapter Four? I'm not! I mean, I am but also :^)

I missed you, he says, his fingers trembling in anticipation of what's to come. I missed us, he says, his dark-brown eyes gazing at him with such intensity, it's almost as if Yves were looking right up into the sky and into an ongoing eclipse. He can't lie, not to the man who now stands before him, not to himself, he missed them as well, he missed the fragile serenity they used to have and this relationship which made him so joyful. A part of him wishes to lose himself in Nate's arms completely, the other, however, tugs at his already fragile mind, asking if perhaps he forgot about something or someone... He didn't forget. How could he?

"Leave."

"Make me." Adam bites back, his fangs flashing in the sterile shine of the overhead lights and upon hearing his retort, Nate feels his own muscles tense up, his fingers tremble with the vehement need for slaughter.

"I'm not going to repeat myself, du Mortain."

"And I'm not going to move, Sewell." 

"Do not test my patience. You either leave, now, on your own, or I'll make you."

"As if you could." The subtle shift in du Mortain's expression tells Nate that the other man wishes to spit at the ground beneath his feet but finds a semblance of restraint before doing so, as if the strict rules and protocol around contamination had more say in du Mortain's behaviour than Nate's thinly veiled threats ever could.

Nate doesn't respond to du Mortain's derision, knowing that, at this point, doing so would be a waste of time, instead taking a step with an intent to sharpen his claws and rip out the other man's spine but before he can do just so, the beeping of the electrocardiogram, which has previously faintly echoed around the room, halts him in his steps. It is louder now, much louder, its rhythm accelerated, when it was very much unhurried but a moment prior...
