[[ I am back home in Finland O:  I have been since Sunday, but I’ve been so terribly jet-lagged on top of recovering from an awful situation that I’m just so glad to finally be out of.  I don’t want to bum anyone out, so if you care for some elaboration it will be hidden below...

Questions For the Mun, Regarding the Muse

7. If you could “borrow” one aspect of your muse and apply it to yourself or your own life, what would you borrow?

Aside from the obvious having real magick part, I’d like to have been as focused and driven in my art as she was in her goal to be a musician.  I’d like to have the consistent drive and sheer motivation she has for being musician so I could apply it to my creative endeavours, at least.

10. What do you love about your muse?

I love her call to action, when she gets to utilise it.  Anika is quiet and often isolates herself, but given a good reason or cause, she rises to the occasion quite readily.  Also, we share our sense of humour ;)

11. What do you hate about your muse?

Her indecisiveness.  Both because I know what it’s like to be this way, and because it annoys me when people can’t make decisions, lol.

20. Three things you and your muse agree on, and one that they don’t.

1. Anika is often startled by the difference in the way she’s treated in the States in comparison to her homeland.  She’s often irritated in how often her gender seems to dictate her life in places where it shouldn’t.  I am too, but in the reverse.  Finland, to the mun, is like a far superior place in this notion.

2.  We agree that all people deserve rights up until the point where they infringe upon someone else’s. “Your rights end where someone else’s begins.” So, if someone has a benign or weird opinion we don’t agree with, they still deserve to have a good life.  If they’re, say, a nazi, then they should be dealt with pretty mercilessly.

3. Because a lot of Finnish, in general, doesn’t utilise gender-based language, Anika believes pronoun specification is inefficient.  The mun generally agrees - life would be easier and simpler with one word for everyone.  I, the mun, believe very much in the power of words, and so I believe if we had only one we would most likely avoid a lot of the gender enforcement that tends to go on in English speaking places. I believe a change even in a word this small would impact the mentality greatly.

Questions For the Mun, Regarding the Muse

Anika, in her very first iteration, was made to be a Saw rp original character back in 2010 (ish?).  Back then she had nothing to do with being Finnish at all (and she wasn’t a witch, if you could imagine) and her surname was Jensen.  She was, however, still a musician and student.

For many years after 2011, she was unused and laying around.  Then some time in 2016 I played Cry of Fear and Afraid of Monsters, and wanted to write a character in those settings (or settings similar).  That never really happened, as the scene surrounding those games wasn’t quite what I was looking for (the crowd was a bit younger, had different interests in the canon characters, so on).

I almost kept her name that way too, right up until the last moment when I dropped her strict association with any fandoms and made her a fandomless OC with fandom verses - the most specific of which was Dead By Daylight.

The reason Anika became a witch is simple; I love witches and I love representing them better than most media does.  I have a lot of witchy characters, because of this.  And the reason she became Finnish-American specifically is because I married a Finn and immigrated to Finland.  This is a small way for me to expand my vocabulary beyond what I’m typically learning in class, as well as put some of it to practice.  It’s unikely that I’ll write anything completely in Finnish for years to come, but I have a good time with the little I throw in here and there to spice things up.

Witchcraft =/= Satanism

This is the mun’s biggest gripe about a lot of media surrounding witches.  I would like to gently make it clear that I am not in support of settings that do this, or things remotely like this.  I want to give examples, but I’m afraid people will take it as me calling out, so I won’t.  But my main point is that, as the mun is a witch herself, I have huge problems with settings where all witches and their power are dark and evil in nature, or owed to Satan as a source.

Much like the real life concepts of witchcraft, magick is neither good nor evil in my original settings for Anika.  No matter what verse I put her in, this will always hold true.  This means I refuse to use her in verses that dictate otherwise.  It is one of my very few hard limits.

(Most) Witches Are Human

What I mean by this specifically is that they’re not good or bad, not black or white.  They’re morally grey just like any normal person is.  There’s a lot of beliefs as to where the power comes from, and they may all be true.  But regardless of the source, they have to choose their paths every day, over and over, whether they come from a long line of saints or apprenticed under a murderer.

As such, each witch is different from the last.  Some of them are indeed Satanists, and even that doesn’t really mean they’re evil.  Some believe their power comes from a deity, others believing it’s a gift of the natural realm, and some still believing it is innate willpower.  So, regardless of creed or specialty or belief, they cannot be generalised as one moral direction or a singular sect or path, because even those who aren’t solitary practitioners can be in groups or covens so vastly different from another.
