I thought I would have a complete abstraction, but everything turned out to be clear and on the shelves. You can see that I was inspired by Gustav Klimt… Although now I'm not sure if it's like that. The first time I had scales painted on me for anthrocon, I was SO reluctant to wash them off. If you have the opportunity, paint some on the back of your hand so you can see them move with your skin. It's unreal.
tired of seeing designs of these three where burn is the darkest/melanistic while blaze is pale and disneylooking. consider perhaps that thinking the brutish sister is darker in complexion than the others is maybe racially charged! dont do that! so now blaze is the darkest one. also they are all lgbt+ now. i make the rules.

It is nice sometimes to purposefully go out and lay down before the oncoming storm. To feel the wind pick up, the smell of the rain, the change in pressure.
I am obviously a friend to and channeler of lightning, so it doesn't worry me. And I like the feel of the thunder in my chest.
I like to watch the rain water stream down my scales, forming rivulets to follow and watch how they change.
But the whole time, I have a wing extended from me, forming a shelter for any who prefer to trust a dragon over the wrath of the storm. Some locals already know I mean them no harm, and word will spread but that doesn't mean it's easy to approach a beast of my size. But still many do, seeking any stable shelter they can find.
So there I lay, enjoying the rain, the storm, the lightning, and protecting my small friends through the torrent.

Clouds of dust and gas called nebulae speckle our galaxy. Some are ferocious cosmic factories that churn out baby stars by the hundreds of thousands, while others are grave markers of stars long dead. Astronomers study them to learn about how stars and planets form, and how ingredients are recycled in space.
But all that dust is difficult to see through, and nebulae are often so large that today’s most powerful space telescopes can only realistically study tiny patches of them. That’s where our soon-to-launch Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope comes in.
This video of the Eagle Nebula showcases Roman’s superb resolution and wide field of view. It begins with a Hubble image of the famous Pillars of Creation superimposed on a ground-based image. The view then zooms out to show the full field of view of Roman’s Wide Field Instrument. Roman’s images will have the resolution of Hubble while covering an area about 100 times larger in a single pointing.
Roman will pair a large view of space with infrared heat vision. That combination is a game-changer for studying nebulae.
Here’s how it usually works. Ground-based telescopes take large but somewhat blurry images of a nebula. Then space-based observatories like our Hubble and James Webb space telescopes zoom in on small patches to show us the details of particularly interesting regions. But with Roman, we’ll get the big picture and incredible detail all in one.
That saves astronomers a lot of time, which opens up new avenues of exploration. For example, instead of spending several months stitching together hundreds of individual images of the Orion nebula with Hubble or Webb, Roman could cover it in a matter of hours in just a few snapshots.
Roman’s vast surveys will give us a census of stellar nurseries, where fledgling stars are being born from parent clouds of gas and dust. Studying these nebular nesting grounds will reveal millions of stellar embryos, newborn stars still swaddled in shrouds of dust, toddler stars that throw tantrums and flare unpredictably, and young stars that may have planetary systems forming around them.
A single Roman survey of our Milky Way galaxy will capture thousands of nebulae, unveiling planet formation and the full lifecycle of stars like never before. That includes their spectacular final acts.

Garden-variety stars like the Sun live fairly placid lives, casually churning out heat and light for billions of years by fusing hydrogen into helium. That nuclear process creates a lot of energy and outward pressure. For a long time, it’s held in check by the inward pull of gravity. But when a star runs out of fuel to fuse, gravity takes over.
Their cores shrink so fast that their outer shells of gas are left behind, which puff out and transform into unique and often psychedelic works of art called planetary nebulae (so-called because they looked similar to planets in early telescopes). Heftier stars meet more dramatic fates, with a runaway reaction that leads to the star’s detonation: a supernova explosion! Both result in nebulae that look like kaleidoscopic dreamscapes.

Star deaths create conditions so extreme that it can form new elements. The iron, oxygen, magnesium, silicon, sulfur, and nickel that together account for around 96% of the Earth's bulk were flung into space by supernova explosions. And some of the elements that make up your DNA, like carbon and nitrogen, were forged by smaller dying stars. You are literally made of stardust!
Roman will help us learn more about how elements were created and distributed throughout the galaxy, all while exploring many other cosmic questions.

Roman’s infrared vision is key, because it will allow astronomers to see through the dust that often blocks telescopes that view other types of light. It’s hard for visible light to penetrate this dusty haze because the particles are the same size or even larger than the light’s wavelength. Since infrared light travels in longer waves, it hardly notices the tiny particles and can pass more easily through dusty regions.
By seeing through dust, we'll get a far better view of stars and other objects that are in nebulae and the cosmic structures that lie behind them. Astronomers will soon be able to chart our galaxy like never before!

Now that the lead dev of silksong has publicly come out, I can share this funny story.
So, back in october I was at a monthly trans meetup just chatting with the other women there. We were talking about how all the best games are made by transfems, and I made the joke that someone from team cherry needs to transition. One of the other women cackled at my joke. At the time I didn't think anything of it.
Fast forward one month. The person who cackled at my joke brought a friend with her this time. I was chatting with this new girl for a while, getting to know her, as you do.
After like an hour of chatting, the conversation turns to silksong and team cherry. I casually say "My impression of team cherry is that they're all really chill dudes," and I swear to fucking god the girl next to me says, "Yeah, we are."
Cue me being absolutely dumbfounded. I actually couldn't believe that my offhand joke from a month ago was real.
Anyway that's how I met the lead developer of silksong.

what isn’t there to love about dragons? scales, fur, feathers. they do it all. wings? hell yeah. talons? indeed. big teeth? yep. tails? absolutely. dragons that don’t have these? all dragons are beautiful. they never miss
my philosophy on “cozy” is that true coziness requires juxtaposition. sitting around a fire in the winter is cozy because the outside is cold, right? if there’s no hardship to take shelter from, peace quickly becomes unremarkable. now, i do think we should strive for peace being unremarkable in real life, but if you’re making a work of fiction that’s supposed to inspire feelings of “coziness,” you need to strike a balance. if part of the game is “customize your house!” i need to feel some sense of relief from returning home. i stand by my previous statement that night in the woods is the coziest game ive ever played, and it doesn’t even market itself as a “cozy game.” it feels cozy because it’s a game about how our friendships give us reasons to keep holding on even under systems that are apathetic (at best) to our suffering. night in the woods says, “yes, you are a small, insignificant speck in a vast sea that will eventually drown you, but there’s a forest on the outskirts in town where you can do dumb shit with your friend, and a lake you can sit by while you talk about your struggles.” and that’s beautiful to me. that’s what peace actually feels like.
I've been worldbuilding dragons lately and have realized (besides that they're maybe a little overpowered) that killing one of these bitches is a horrifying process.
All the normal reasons killing a dragon is terrifying. It's big, intelligent, has massive fucking teeth and claws, is really hot, and can set you on fire.
Dragons are basically 100% congealed magic. And dragon's breath is just taking some of that magic and flinging it at you. Consequently 100% of its several ton bodymass is ready to be turned into dragon fire at any second. May the pillars help you if a dragon realizes it's not escaping alive, because it's going to its whole lair with it.
As a consequence of the above fact, dragons blood is also 100% congealed magic. It will do horrifying shit to you if you touch it, and by the time you've killed the dragon there's going to be a lot of it.
Dragons are shapechangers. While most of them can't really use this in a fight, due to the particulars of how it works, the ones that can? There's no requirement that a dragon has to look like our idea of a dragon. Or that they have to have any particular number of limbs, eyes, heads, tentacles...
Dragons don't have organs. You can't kill one by stabbing it through the heart or the brain. Even beheading isn't an instant-kill (Though it might be happy to let you think that it is). If you're going to kill a dragon you're bleeding it to death.
Once it's dead, all that magic has to go somewhere. And that somewhere is usually the local landscape. Everyone's going to know a dragon died here, for generations to come.
This, of course, applies only to most dragons. The Three Ancients, who are older than civilization; Starlight, Queen of Dragons; and the Last Child Of Wyrm, who is destined to end the universe, are outliers adn have not been counted.
