Things aren’t going so terribly, so far—Annette and Mae are making quick work of the serpent, but it almost felt too easy. And Celica knows, from her battle with it in the past, that dealing with either of these beasts had been anything but. Celica’s brow furrows, grip tightening on her sword, only for her to belatedly realize it was not the one she had before.
She glances down at it, eyes running along the blade of foreign make. This was a… katana. She knew almost nothing about wielding them—that was more Kamui’s area of expertise—and Celica finds herself wishing she had taken the time to ask him a bit more about his sword style. But now was not the time to regret or reminiscence; this was the hand she’s been dealt, and she simply had to make the most of it.
Serpent attacks Celica for -1.5HP (Celica: 8.5/10)
Poison Strike: -1HP (Celica: 7.5/10)
Celica counters for -1.5HP (Serpent: 1.5/20)
After recovering from Mae’s attack, the serpent changes targets, casting a blast of Valaura Celica’s way. The toxic light hits her dead on, burning and stinging in equal measure, and Celica cries out from the pain. So, this was how that spell felt.
Briareus attacks Celica for -5.5HP (Celica: 2/10)
Celica counters for -2HP (Briareus: 18/20)
It’s not enough to bring her down, not nearly enough, so she kicks off into a sprint, swinging the Hagakure Blade towards one of the serpent’s many heads. The blade slices through scaled, reptilian skin, and Celica is almost relieved to see it—a far cry from their last battle, where not even the strength of the Brave Sword could amount to much against that wyvern’s thick hide. But her small moment of celebration is cut short when the goliath charges for her as well, the ground tremoring with each thunderous footstep. There’s no time for her to run, or dodge; before she knows it, fists are slamming into her petite form, hard enough to break bone.
Celica is healed for +1HP by Amaterasu (Celica: 3/10)
Celica heals Marianne for +6HP and Annette for +3HP (Marianne: 10/10, Annette: 10/10)
Celica is healed for +1HP by Bond, but its canceled out by poison.
But Celica fights back. She desperately strikes back at one of the fists, slashing it through the knuckle. But that’s about all she can manage before crumpling to her knees in a mix of pain and exhaustion, the sting of poison running through her veins. Propped up on her sword, she raises a shaky hand, summoning what magic she can. The soothing light weakly spreads throughout the arena, healing Annette and Marianne’s wounds.
Their two enemies head towards Celica while Annette can do nothing but watch in horror and disbelief. Even despite all of that, she still is able to heal the two girls to a full recovery. It’s admirable, Annette thinks. The strength and determination it takes to keep fighting back is something she’s always admired.
She isn’t able to cast a healing spell, but what she can do is fight-- To end this and rid themselves of one opponent. If this axe is as strong as her last attempt, surely she can get rid of this phantom here and now. The Axe of Zoltan rests within her grasp and she moves towards the serpent as soon as she’s feeling fully revitalized and recharged.
Still, the poison continues to make its course. She knows it’s there no matter how much she tries not to think about it. She tries to suppress the thought and its repercussions, but it seems like she isn’t able to. The serpent effortlessly dodges her attack as if this is only a game. She pouts at her failure, briefly turning her back towards the enemy only to find herself struck once more by its stinging light.
Annette attacks Serpent -> Miss.
Serpent counterattacks -> -3 HP.
Annette attacks again (Darting Blow) -> Miss.
Annette is healed at the beginning of her turn for +1 (Amaterasu) and healed +1 at the end (Bond). Poison overrides Bond. Annette left with 6/10.
She faces the serpent now, eyes squinting upon its casting. She charges ahead, replicating her previous move. Still, the horrific light’s pain casts a removal of energy on her as she finds herself hitting a bit too far to the right. A mistake, but no time to dwell on it. She calls out to her team, tone filled with her usual pep: “Let’s finish this one off first!”
